WASHINGTON - The same U.S. military counterterrorism unit that got Osama bin Laden used a drone and jet strike in Yemen on Friday to kill the U.S.-born cleric suspected of inspiring or helping plan numerous attacks on the United States, including the Christmas 2009 attempt to blow up a jetliner, U.S. and Yemeni officials said.
Anwar al-Awlaki was killed in a strike on his convoy directed by the CIA and carried out with the U.S. Joint Special Operations Command's firepower, according to a counterterrorist official, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss intelligence.
Great Job CIA and US Military.
Heard this 3 hours ago and couldn’t believe it hadn’t been posted here.
Is this CONFIRMED? If so, that’s awesome! We need to keep up this ‘Whack-a Mole” on the al Queda leaders. Everytime a new one pops up out of his hole, whack him.
Good news!
This is sure to have the leftist wingnuts in a tizzy.
May the fleas of a thousand camels infest his arm pits while he burns in hell.
Outstanding news! I want to see the confirmation, but the fact CBS is reporting this is pretty good all by itself.
Oh, those pitchforks and hot burning flames must really hurt, huh Anwar?
To quote Jack Nicholson as the Joker in Batman, “I’m glad you’re dead.”
Open Letter to ALL Al-Qaeda leaders:
You’re DEAD! If you’re not room temperature yet -
It’s only a matter of days!
Enjoy your eternity with your Allah....(aka Satan)
USA
Awlaki relocated from the Shabwa region to the Marib province around three weeks ago.
Awlaki was in one of two cars that was hit by several hellfire missiles from one of our Predator drones about 12 hours ago. The strike was 8km east of the town of Khashef in the province of al-Jawf, about 140km from Sanaa.
Samir ibn Zafar Khan, US citizen from Charlotte, North Carolina was likely killed in the same strike. Khan was the webmaster for a number of AQ blogs and the graphic editor of the AQ magazine Inspire.
This is the third time we killed Awlaki and his brother says he’s still alive. But the nature of the US confirmation indicates that DNA was collected, confirming his death.
He was killed in 2009, too.
In Yemen.
Osama 72 virgins
Obama 72 versions
People like the terrorist-to-be in MA wanted to kill innocents with drones. We killed the guilty.
Fort Hood shooter to al-Awlaki: “I can’t wait to join you in the afterlife”
American citizen killed without a trial. The anti-death penalty people and the be-nice-to-Muslims people would be very upset, if this happened while there was a Republican President. Because it happened while Obama was President, they’ll either keep quiet or applaud it.
The government knew about him and engaged him here in the US and then just let him go about his terrorist business.
And the other day 2 mid eastern terrorist were caught after coming over the southern border, charged with some crimes, and then let go.
Knowing they would be working on their terrorist agenda and eventually attempting to (or actually doing it) kill many Americans.
Also I don't think the stream of mid eastern muslim women flying into the Dearborn MI area to give birth to furture US citizen terrorists has slowed down.
This phony anchor baby policy needs to be stopped.
There are some serious problems that the current administration isn't dealing with properly.
And now the MSM is drooling all over Obama about how hard he is on terrorists.
BS, he's causing more terror with his policies then he is stopping.
I think the wingnuts will be in a private tizzy, because while they all think Obama is too conservative (yes, the loons actually think this), they also think any of the current GOP candidates are to the right of Hitler (and they imagine Hitler is right wing, which is deluded as well).
You are correct, though, in that if a GOP president were in office for this, there would be marches, violent demonstrations, and all manner of huge hoopla.
