U.S. Consulate Issues Warning About Matamoros for Americans

BROWNSVILLE - There's another warning for Americans. This time it’s for those who work or do business in Matamoros.

The U.S. Consulate warns people not go to Matamoros if you don't have to. The caution comes the day after another street battle in that city in which two people were injured.

We met a man we'll call "Max" near the B&M International Bridge. He'd just come back from Matamoros. Fear kept him from showing his face.

"We saw some of the streets were blocked with semi-trucks. We saw a lot of soldiers moving around in the streets, two helicopters flying overhead very low to the ground," says "Max."

The man says he goes into Matamoros daily for business. He knew there was something going on when he saw the empty downtown streets.

"Everybody knew I was trying to get home. That's what I was trying to do… I got family over here. That's one of the things you worry about whether or not you are going to make it back," says "Max."

"Max" says he has few choices. He has to cross the border in order to provide for his family.

"It’s a shame we have to be going through something like this when Matamoros was an excellent place to go visit and go have dinner, a family place. Now you have to be careful. You can't take your family over there," says "Max."

Today was a good day. "Max" came home. He says he doesn't want to die trying to earn an honest living in Matamoros.

Matamoros is a stone’s throw across the Rio Grande from Brownsville, TX.

It would be like living in Minneapolis with a war going on in St. Paul.

We are going to have to station troops along the border, sooner rather than later.

When you have a nation of cowards, this is what happens. If there were just 10% of the male population who were ‘men’; the gangs would be eliminated.

Consider Acapulco; once a tourist Mecca. Gorgeous city, historic, wonderful beaches. Now drug gangs have taken over and the cruise ships are pulling out.

So, a city with over 2 Million people is going to suffer; because - oh, let’s pretend 20,000 gang members have decided that kidnapping, murder and random shooting is the ‘macho’ thing to do.

If 10% of the men had any self-respect, any dignity - they would have an army of (2 Million * 50% male vs female * 50% exclude old and young * 10% real ‘men’) 50,000 real men. They would outnumber the gangs 2.5:1. And everyone knows where the gangs are and who is a gang member.

The trouble is that Mexico has no real ‘men’.
