Yes, I'm sure the similarities actually mean that Perry is just as bad as that old fool who looks like he'd wander off the stage during a debate.

>>>>>>You used it and it's the same argument used by the Perrybots to set up a false choice.

Look. Perry is not a false choice. He's just not your choice. I can offer up objective analysis and still defend Perry or any other conservative for that matter, from the mindless rants and raves that have become the standard around FR over the last month or so. Its easy. Btw, I do think Perry is the best candidate the GOP has to offer, right now. And I don't see that changing. But I haven't actually endorsed him and have not sent a penny to any candidate yet. Held my cash back in 2008 and I might do it again.

>>>>>>The entire country would have to undergo a paradigm shift in the next year and that's not going to happen. Things are getting worse, not better.

If all the trends start going in the right directions and the people feel better about their future, Obama will be back in the catbird seat once again. If the choice is Obama or Romney, Obama WILL win. Don't rule out a sudden upward shift in the economy, Just don't bet the house on it.

>>>>>Perot didn't take down Bush, Sr. Bush, Sr. took himself down.

LOL Geez. I was around in 1992 and I know what was going on. The fact that Bush41 rejected the Reagan agenda and embraced compromise with Congressional Democrats is what put him in hot water with conservatives. Perot saw Bush appeasing the Dems with his flip on taxes being the last straw. Perot took a calculated risk. He realized this was his opportunity to get in the race. Some statistical analysis I've seen said that 13% of the 19% Perot garnered in 1992, would have gone to Bush41 had Perot not entered the race. That would have made for a very close election outcome between Bush and Clinton. There are other analysis which states the opposite. In the end, Perot definitely played the spoiler. Lets not forget his spoiler status in 1996. That election might have turned out differently too.

>>>>>I outlined my point in detail. But anyone that does what he does as an elected official or in any other capacity is my enemy. You either enforce the law and defend our country against millions of invaders, or you stand against us. Perry made his bed. He shall earn all that comes with having done so.

Okay. Perry is your enemy and everyone else is sleeping with the enemy. Gotcha! Thanks for finally being honest. Took you a while. Contrary to what many people say and think. Perry supports the Feds securing the border. He believes as all good conservatives believe, that border security is a federal responsibility. It does not fall on the states. Period. Having said that, Perry has spent hundreds of millions of Texas taxpayer dollars making an effort to secure the border the best he can. As head of the RGA Perry promoted and supported the RGA call for sharing costs between states and the Feds when it comes to border security. This idea that Perry is an open border freak is pure hyperbole.

We’re just not going to agree on Perry. I’m reminded of what someone asked me with respect to Slick Willard about 4 years ago what he could do to earn my support, and the answer to that was simple... nothing. That applies to Perry. How could I support someone I wouldn’t vote for Governor ? I only voted for McCain in 2008 in the general because of Palin and hoping that he’d drop dead before he was sworn in. If he had put someone like Lieberman or Willard on the ticket, I wouldn’t have voted for him at all. If we’re going to have an open borders fraud as President, let them be a Democrat. I’m not enabling this insanity one day more.

As for 1992, I think even had Perot not entered or stayed out of the race after his leaving it the first time, Bubba probably would’ve won narrowly on the strength of large states (similar to Carter-Ford, albeit with a different grouping of states). There was simply too much anti-Bush sentiment and a lot of disgruntled Republicans and Independents would’ve either voted for Bubba in protest, or for a lesser 3rd party or sat it out.

As for 1996, Perot definitely should’ve stayed out, but had Dole not run such a sedate race, it was quite winnable. Although I’ve seen a lot of Dole-bashing here, I’ve had respect for him if only because he was one of the last “grown-ups” around still in office who went through WW2. It’s too bad someone like Congressman Sam Johnson of Texas never ran for President. We need more heroes and less prima-donna rodent and RINO zeroes in office.

>>>>>We’re just not going to agree on Perry.

I've known that for quite some time. We've gone around with this Perry v immigration issue enough. Guess we can agree to disagree. On my other 4 issues, Perry is still a solid conservative -- pro military, pro limited govt, pro lower taxes and pro-life --- and should he be fortunate enough to win the nomination, will get my vote versus Obama.

>>>>>I only voted for McCain in 2008 in the general because of Palin

Me too. My guess is Palin won McCain many additional votes that he wouldn't have received otherwise if he chose Lieberman. Which I heard was his second choice.

Did you see the latest poll out of Florida? Romney now leads Perry, no bump for Cain. Saturdays straw-poll was a protest vote after all.

Re: Lieberman. I recall hearing that Lieberman was actually McCain’s first choice for VP. Even some of the establishment types told him that wouldn’t fly and would be alienating to the base to the nth degree. Had he done so, McCain would’ve lost by an even wider margin in the general. Conservatives would’ve sat out the race and Lieberman wouldn’t have helped one whit with getting disgruntled Dems.

Re: The FL poll, it’s a Democrat (PPP) poll. Take it with a grain of salt.
