Mexico rejects video call to exterminate cartel

MEXICO CITY — The Mexican government said it is investigating videos posted on the Internet in which a gang of masked men vow to exterminate the violent Zetas drug cartel, and said it opposes such vigilante methods.

At least two videos have been posted by a group believed linked to the powerful Sinaloa cartel that calls itself the "Mata Zetas," or "Zetas Killers." The Zetas were founded by deserters from an elite military unit and are known for their brutality.

In the most recent video, posted over the weekend, the group says it is attacking the Zetas because people are tired of the gang's kidnappings and extortion.

"We are the armed wing of the people, and for the people," says a man with a ski mask, who is seen in the video sitting at a table with four other masked associates and reading from a prepared statement. "We are anonymous warriors, with faces, but proudly Mexican." The speaker said his group was prohibited by its ethical code from carrying out kidnappings or extortion.

No group has formally claimed responsibility for that video, but the language and style of the declaration were similar to a video released in July, in which about two dozen armed men claimed to be "Mata Zetas" from the Jalisco Nueva Generacion cartel, or New Generation cartel, a group linked to the Sinaloa cartel.

Anyone who thinks we can continue to have open borders and we will not see this kind of violence in the US is insane.

When the government FAILS, the people must band together and find solutions. This is human nature and good. Americans should be thrilled that Mexicans are saying enough to these drug cartels. They are putting their lives on the line and if they don’t it will continue to migrate north.

Yep, the people of Mexico need the tools to restore law and order. They need the right to bear arms and to organize on local levels to fight government and cartel corruption.

If I were betting you will see paramilitary groups forming just as it was in Colombia. Money will come from the rich in Mexico and other places. It will be members of the military who are fed up with the corruption. In Colombia they were called Los Pepes or AUC to name two.

Expect dead drug members bodies to start showing up.

Precisely my thoughts, the parallel is certainly there.

There were persistent rumors that Los PEPES were backed in some way, technologically, training, etc., by the US.

The current administration is, instead, arming the Mexican cartels.

Not sure, though, that the “Zeta Killers” are not just a rival cartel. It wouldn’t be the first time.
