PHOENIX - He collapsed while playing soccer, and now he's on life support -- but his wife says the hospital wants to ship him to Mexico.
A few days makes the difference between a man receiving state-assisted medical care and possibly being shipped off to Mexico on life support.
When Jesus Cornelio collapsed and fell into a coma, he didn't have his papers. A few days later, they arrived in the mail.
Jesus and Evelyn grew up on the same street, became friends, later high school sweethearts, and recently newlyweds. At 23, Evelyn is a non profit worker that cannot afford to keep her husband alive. Now she is faced with the toughest decision of her life.

I”m sure someone will call me “insensitive” or “Hateful” for this - but who’s paying to keep him on life support? That is extremely expensive.
“he received some of his legal documents, including a social security number.” Which may or may not have anything to do with his legal status.
Surely his country would be more than willing to pay to have their citizen receive life-saving health care. Bill them.
What a sad story. Prayers up for the stricken man and his family.
Call me insensitive, but healthy 23-year-olds do not simply collapse and go comatose while exercising with one exception—if they have ingested illegal performance enhancing drugs, they may suffer a heart attack and lapse into a coma.
Ping!
People of all ages drop with heart failure with no apparant reason quite regularly.
People who have broken the law by sneaking into my country will most likely lie, cheat, and steal quite regularly as well.
Or are you the doctor of record?
I’ll be more “insensitive and hateful” than you. I think that all ERs in the southwest should have airline tickets to Mexico City on hand to give any illegal that shows up at their doors.
These ILLEGAL folks are running OUR hospitals out of business and it’s way past time to fix the problem!!
Flame away-———
Actually it does happen, I occasionally read about perfectly healthy teens falling down dead during sports practice.
Most of the time they find out they had an enlarged heart that suddenly failed.
