Huckabee: Perry 'not prepared ... looked dumbfounded'
Politico ^ | 9/24/2011 | Alexander Burns

Mike Huckabee, the former presidential candidate and certified non-fan of Rick Perry, says the Texas governor isn't ready for the 2012 primetime.

Perry's latest debate performance showed he is "not prepared for the pressure of the presidential stage yet," Huckabee said on Fox News Saturday. "Rick Perry's got a struggle ahead of him."

Huckabee compared Perry to 2008 presidential candidate Fred Thompson, who entered the race late to huge anticipation and quickly ran out of steam. During that campaign, Huckabee sought Perry's endorsement, only to see his neighboring governor back Rudy Giuliani.

The former Arkansas governor said Perry fumbled the debate question about his support for giving in-state college tuition to the children of illegal immigrants. Perry's problem, Huckabee said, was that he positioned himself "really in opposition to the [GOP] base."

"Rick Perry could have answered that in a way that could have defused it," Huckabee said. "We’re not talking about people who just showed up to go to college, we’re talking about people we educated in our schools."

Instead, Huckabee jabbed: "He just looked dumbfounded."

You people keep throwing out that 400 million BS, where is the break down of the figure. What did they do add up the law enforcement budgets for every border county. That is what it sounds like.

Compare the tiny border Cali has with the 1200 mile border Texas has. Then compare the number of illegals in each state. I would be interested to know what that comes out to per mile.

There is no doubt some fencing works in some areas and especially in urban areas. It's just this 2000 mile fence idea is being thrown around by people who haven't thought it out all the way and are letting their emotions get the best of them.

No “path to citizenship”, that is just another name for amnesty. I don’t want 20 million illegals and their 50 million children and their 100 million grandchildren voting in OUR elections ever! That would be stealing our country right out from under us, can’t you understand that?

My solution to the illegal alien problem would be to transfer responsibility from ourselves to where it really belongs, onto the illegal aliens themselves. They and their supporters have laid a guilt trip on us, we should not accept this. We should wash our hands of the problem and say — illegals it is your problem you solve it. You untangle the knot. We cannot tend to their every problem, they have to take care of that.

Attrition is the way to go. Use e-verify and crack down on all of the government freebies. When they cannot find jobs or get government benefits, they will start leaving. A serious national discussion of this with law enforcement will let the illegals know that their time is up. They have been enabled by the cheap labor plantation owners and the cheap vote politicians. When they begin to realize that we are serious this time, they will begin to leave. This will take a while as the political debate will take a while. Illegals will be following the debates, as the debate heats up, more illegals will get cold feet and will head back home. Some will hang on longer but will change their minds as more and more of their friends head home. Illegals have a huge communication network which consists of Spanish media as well as their families and friends. They will be following the political proceedings with apprehension, when it starts to become more evident that we will definitely crack down on illegal immigration, the exodus will begin.

We have been afflicted with a false conscience due to the endless guilt trips foisted upon us by the greedy exploiters of illegal labor and the pandering politicians. When we refuse to be guilt-tripped by these self-interested manipulators, we will declare our independence from the illegals. We own them nothing. They owe us.

Here are some guilt trips that the illegal alien lobby lays on us:

1) We will be separating families. Well, what do you think immigration does? Immigration is about leaving your homeland and family. It is painful but most immigrants have not had the luxury of bringing 120 extended family members with them to keep them company.

2) How will we round up all those millions of illegals? They can pack up and leave on their own. They came here on their own and they can leave on their own.

3) What about the illegals who were brought here as children? It is unfortunate that there are people who have lived here into their adult years because their families brought them here as children. However, we did not put them in this dilemma—their parents did and we are not morally obligated to get them out of the dilemma. Even if we tried, it would be such a huge mess trying to sort it all out and we would need an army of new bureaucrats to address the problem. Think of the corruption. When Reagan gave 3 million of them amnesty, there was lots of fraud as more illegals came into the country to take advantage of the amnesty. These people have been mooching off of us and taking advantage of our good nature for years. We have to stop being chumps. Getting back to the illegal adult children of illegals, I think it would be okay for them to apply for a temporary work visa, that would allow them to stay in the United States for say, five years as they go through the process of applying for legalization. They must go to immigration lawyers and pay for the process with their own money. There will be a glut of these applications going through the system, we might add some more judges to speed the process along, but they will have to do this process individually. There should be no mass amnesty.
