How is GM a U.S. car company when it has plants in China, Mexico and other foreign countries? Is that just a euphemism that GM keeps going so it can get American taxpayers to bail them out every so often?

well, technically Toyota etc. manufacture in the US as well.

GM is American only in name. Were it not for the bail outs from US government, GM would have become a Chinese company a long time ago. They are making profits everywhere else but North America. The new car models they make overseas dont even look anything like American cars.
