Republican legislators in Sacramento are crying foul over an eleventh-hour push to limit future initiatives to November general elections.

But the idea behind the union-backed legislation doesn't seem so bad to a majority of GOP voters, according to a new Field Poll.

Registered Republicans supported the proposed change by a 15-point margin, 52 percent to 37 percent. Overall, 56 percent of voters back the proposal, which was approved by the Legislature and is now awaiting action by Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown.

Being as Republicans are more likely than Democrats to turn out for the June primary (barring a serious challenge to the incumbent Obama), of course this union-backed move is to benefit Democrats.

For all his complaining about Republicans being beholden to certain entities, I suspect Moonbeam will heed his union masters and sign this bill.

The reason that most sane people in California (Republican or Democrat) are in favor of limiting initiatives to November is to retain what little sanity we have left.

The onslaught of deceptive and repetitive commercials for and against every initiative is just too much to take.

Shut off your TV and you still get to listen to the crapola on radio.

Turn off your radio and you still get robocalls.

Not to mention the tidal wave of junk mail.

Personally I believe that the proposition system has become so corrupted and coopted I wish it were eliminated. We should pass one more proposition: the complete and total elimination of the proposition system.

Then when the legislators screw up in Sacramento the only option will be to drive over there with pitchforks raised and torches lit.
