Gingrich could be the nominee. So could George H. W. Bush. He's eligible (he only won once). He's also a blast from the distant past with a great deal of embarrassing baggage and no capacity for the kind of leadership the nation needs today. Just like Gingrich.

Newt Gingrich ‘12 is not remotely analogous to John McCain ‘08. Gingrich is running to the left of a major political player (Rick Perry). McCain benefited from a field with no plausible conservative. Huckabee was a progressive joke, Romney was (and is) a fraud. Fred Thompson never put together a big time campaign operation. McCain started with strong support from one third of the conservative coalition (national security conservatives/veterans). Gingrich starts with strong support from his current wife. McCain was always a threat for the 2008 nomination. Gingrich has never had the faintest hope of winning in 2012.

Clinton, as per usual, is talking out of his butt.
