The Great Obama Catharsis
Pajamas Media ^ | 20 Sep 2011 | Victor Davis Hansen

Barack Obama has done the United States a great, though unforeseen, favor. He has brought to light, as no one else could, many of the pernicious assumptions of our culture from the last half-century. He turned theory and “what ifs” into fact for all America to see, experience, and, yes, suffer through.

The Years of Wandering…

Jimmy Carter tried to enact the therapeutic agenda, but he was inept. Liberals for the last thirty years blamed his failure on incompetence rather than his statist message. Until the Obama meltdown, progressives had faulted Bill Clinton as a wily sell-out who had won an improbable second term only by cynically reforming welfare and balancing budgets. Dick Morris engineered his comeback and now he works for Fox News: enough said. So the complaint was that the messenger was slick, but the noble message was diluted.

VDH is right about a lot of this, but he might be a tad behind the John Galts of the business world. We knew this would happen if Obama was elected before he was elected. It’s why many of us have gone to various iterations of Galt’s gulch to wait this mess out, and hope that VDH is right and that America learns from this disaster of an experiment.

Obama is now damaged goods. They are now saying that he looked good but he was too weak and inexperienced to bring about the true socialist's utopia they had bet the farm on.

The socialists have exposed themselves prematurely. The question is will the general public notice?

I knew what would happen before Obama got elected because I am old enough to remember life under the Carter Administration. What happened here is that we hit a tipping point where the majority of the electorate was not.

Scary to think we will have to endure one of these every couple of generations in order to teach the lesson.

“We knew this would happen if Obama was elected before he was elected.”

You're right...WE knew. But, the people who voted for “O” didn't know or else they ignored the potential for lasting damage.

In any case, and I've said this before, it will be a long time before some of THESE irresponsible American voters flirt with Communism, again.

True, Obama voters didn’t realize it.....but a lot of folks who did not vote for Obama did not realize what apparently many of us did - and apparently what Mr. Hanson (who I like) is just now realizing.

McCain didn’t realize it (and may still not, the old idiot geezer) and certainly the GOP moderates didn’t.

I was so convinced that I re-organized my entire life around it as documented here http://www.americanthinker.com/2008/12/blame_me_for_job_losses.html

"Scary to think we will have to endure one of these every couple of generations in order to teach the lesson."

This is why the goal should never be to completely get rid of leftist/socialists. It's always good to have them around on college compuses or perhaps under glass at the local museum. That way, like the numerous memorials we have in the country we can always be reminded. In this case, we are reminded of the utter futility and disaster that socialism wrecks on us.

“Fairly or not, “green” conjures up everything from Climategate to Solyndra, and suggests an entire class of elite academics, financiers, and activists who wished to follow the oil companies’ crony-capitalist business plans of the 1940s and 1950s without the basic truth that oil is a logical energy source and so far a windmill isn’t.”

So very, very true. If going green would save us money and create jobs, then green we would be. But instead it’s a forced agenda putting money in shysters’ pockets.

Say, that reminds me. I bought a nice medium sized used tractor over the weekend. Pretty much everything I buy these days is about increasing my self sufficiency. Even the 40x60 metal building...

That’s very interesting, and since Obama was elected we’ve “invested’ in a large secure safe and some pistols and ammo, and sadly, not enough gold and silver.

If it looks like the election is going the wrong way about this time next year, I think you will see an explosion in self sufficiency industries and also in ex patriat websites and travel brokers.

I've seen this since he was elected. And his accomplices were the radical crazies in Congress. They ignored one of the most important rules about boiling a frog alive. You are supposed to turn up the heat SLOOOOOOOW, so the frog doesn't notice.

They got in and turned the knob to "volcano heat" and so many of us jumped out that we even woke up the ones who were already mostly dead. Only the ones that ARE dead will vote for him now.

And the good news is that the whole progressive thing was exposed as the incredible failure that it is.

You nailed it FRiend. They almost pulled it off, their complete socialist revolution. Had they stayed hidden for a few years, and consolidated power, they may have succeeded. But they immediately started in with ‘i won’,,, and repubs need to ‘stay quiet’. They told us we can come for the ride, but that we had to sit in the back of the bus.
They spiked the ball on the 5 yard line.

Last,,, the internet saved us. Had this happened in the past, Tea and FR could have never organized so quickly. Sarah couldn’t live inside the Kenyans head with twitter. BIG lesson for us,,, unfettered internet is every but as important as our guns.

The MSM is throwing him under the bus. The stories are mounting. Heck, even yahoo news had a “fact check” article about Obama’s claims about the taxes the rich pay and basically outed him.

They are ramping up the “treat him like GWB” engine. He’s not nearly as strong (personally or professionally) as Bush. He will go down hard. I seriously think the SS will need to keep sharp implements from him and, especially Michelle.

I am dead serious here.

I don’t have enough precious metals either, but I look at it this way: These things are ALL a form of “tool” to keep one alive. Heck, even a job is a tool in that sense. So I asked myself, which would be the better use of money, $30,000 for a large building which I can use in hundreds of ways (even a meeting place), or $30,000 in gold and silver?

I went for the building.

I have almost no doubt that we will have serious riots and burning cities by this time next year. I think it might actually happen before next year.

As someone mentioned a couple of years ago, these things always tend to take longer to come about than people expect, but once they arrive they unravel MUCH faster than pretty much anyone thought they could. I do think it is one of those exponential things.

Remember all,, people under 40 have no memory of Carter. He may as well be Taft. Remember that when you look at those women about 30, adoringly gazing at Obama.
People in their 30s and under are easily duped, unless they have been raised right, or have made an effort to acquire knowledge despite the efforts to keep them uninformed.

These very thoughts have crossed my mind too.

When you were a kid, did you ever lay on the ground and watch water droplets fall on your face. They seem to take forever and then they are close and almost instantly they hit your face.

Kinda like that scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail where the two castle guards see this guy charging them from a hundred yards away. As he continues to charge, he’s still a hundred yards away, and the cycle repeats without him getting any closer - and suddenly he is there cutting them up with his sword.

I think it will go down kinda like that.
