Blueblood Killer Tom Capano Found Dead In His Cell

September 19, 2011

SMYRNA, Del. (CBS) — Tom Capano, a once wealthy and politically connected attorney serving life in prison for killing a mistress in 1996, was found dead today in his prison cell.

There was no immediate word on a cause of death, but officials say no foul play is suspected.

The Capano murder case became the stuff of made-for-TV movies, but it was real-life horror for the family of the 30-year-old woman whose body has never been found.

Ann Marie Fahey became involved with Capano in 1994, when she was a secretary to Delaware’s governor, Tom Carper.

Geez. Not only has the world lost a murderer, but also a lawyer. Not a bad deal at all.

This asshole had it all, and his lust for power led to him croaking in prison. Good riddance.

“To me, the worst sentence for him always was life in prison,” says Judge Lee. “He led a privileged life and he certainly died in a situation that none of us would want to be in.”

This story was the subject of one of Ann Rule’s best books, “And Never Let Her Go.” It’s been a while since I’ve read it, but I do recall that Capano was a cold SOB. IIRC, he tried to pin the murder on his ex-wife or another of his mistresses.

My husband worked with a lot of his family. The Capanos are a big plumbing family here in Delaware.

It was Capano’s brother who turned him in.

The judge in the Capano case, Bill Lee, was/is a bit of a political bigwig in these parts...ran for Governor, Repub party.

I’m sure he’ll have a nice seat waiting in hell...arrogant SOB.

WOW—what an ending. His mother always thought he would soon be free. The golden boy—and his brother wasn’t much better. He was an attorney in demand and he lived his life in the fast lane.
I moved from Delaware the year he began serving time. I often checked the Delawareonline news to find what his status was. I wish the best for his daughters, maybe now they can build a good life for themselves.

Once the brother told the police that they’d dumped the body off the back of his fishing boat, he did try to pin the murder on another mistress. He never denied disposing of the body because that evidense was overwhelming. They found the cooler she’d been in floating in the ocean whith his and her DNA and shotgun holes where he shot it to try and sink it.

He’s scum.

Thanks, All. Had to go back and look it up in Wiki - I do recall the extreme arrogance he portrayed in the courtroom. Sick SOB!

Kind of lousy writing not to at least state how old the man was (61 according to Wikipedia). He looks older in the photo but prison can do that I hear.

He tried to pin the murder on his mistress of several years (she was close to Tom's age). Some of her testimony was probably helpful in his guilty verdict.
