When the Vikings settled there prior to the last little ice age it was a green and fertile land along the coasts. The weather patterns shifted a few hundred years later and the populations had to shift with many going back to Norway. Weather by its nature is NOT static; with or without man.

The entire west coast of Greenland was ice-free in the 11th and 12th centuries. Vikings were growing row crops and raising livestock outdoors along the fjords there. The high arctic was so ice-free that walrus hunters could venture north in search of valuta as late as October.

It is well documented in the Icelandic sagas. (Translated from the original runes by Hermione Granger.)

:: due to climate change, the shrinking of inland waters such as the Dead and Aral Seas, and the drying up of rivers such as the Colorado River are all documented ::

Yes, and heavy petro-fueled industries caused the Great Sauk Sea to disappear in the Cambrian period.

I don’t know if this has anything to do with it, but I saw a cool show describing how Greenland is always distorted on world maps. This says it better than I can:

I’m not sure that this counts as breaking news, but the fact that the BBC reported it certainly does qualify.

This is a publicity stunt to sell an overpriced book with little difference from all the atlases on the remainder tables.

A death rattle from the old media.

Most people fail to understand just how much money stands to be made behind the mantra of global warming. Sure, the measures to be taken to combat this “threat” will be costly and will make life difficult, unpleasant and, in some cases impossible, for us commoners but have you seen Al Gore’s house. Life will be good for the selected few.

****The break-up of some Antarctic ice shelves due to climate change, the shrinking of inland waters such as the Dead and Aral Seas, and the drying up of rivers such as the Colorado River are all documented.***

Bunkum. The Dead sea is shrinking because of the divertion of Jordan river water for irrigation and the mining of the Dead Sea waters for salts and chemicals.

The Aral sea is shrinking due to divertion of rivers for irrigation.

The Colorado River is low due to divertion of water for irrigation and Las Vegas sucks up lots of it from Lake Mead.

>>the drying up of rivers such as the Colorado River are all documented

I didn’t read the entire article, but a huge WTF on that one. Hello crazy BBC writer, all the water being sucked out of the Colorado River to fuel housing booms in Phoenix, Las Vegas and LA has more to do with that than any climate change.

How could they make the claim that ice, if lost, is lost forever? It seems very unscientific to suggest that forever and always an event of the previous 12 years is irreversible.

That’s too easy.

There’s no Science anywhere in this entire thing.

It’s just a great big swindle that just happens to use the word “Science” as part of the con.

the drying up of rivers such as the Colorado River are all documented

Recent rainfall is now FILLING all reservoirs along the Colorado river.

The weather patterns shifted a few hundred years later and the populations had to shift with many going back to Norway.

And this was directly attributable to the vikings driving around in their gas-guzzling viking-mobiles, their decadent incandescent lights, bloated meat heavy diets, low taxes, and somehow, their owning of fire arms.
