The sulphuric acid (and other stuff) in the gasses from the volcano are called “vog” and they are truly vile. Anyone with asthma or other respiratory problems has a hard time.
That was me, got nowhere near the vapor.
Also had old tennis shoes on walking over old dried lava in the park you mentioned and in three hours I shaved off at least an eigth of an inch from the bottom of the shoe.
