CBS/AP) CINCINNATI — A tea party activist is challenging U.S. House Speaker John Boehner in the 2012 Republican primary.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that David Lewis announced his candidacy on Friday.

Lewis, 26, is the father of a 2-year-old girl, and says he plans to run on a single issue — Boehner's support of a federal budget that includes funding for Planned Parenthood, which he calls "the largest killer of unborn babies in America."

Lewis told the newspaper he plans to run graphic...

A sane and sober candidate would run on a variety of issues.

The country needs a 180 degree turn to end the annual defecits in our budgets and to stop increasing the national debt.

The GOP leadership is not fully committed to those ideas yet. Paul Ryan had the best ideas I’ve heard of but the rest are not into dramatically downsizing federal spending.

That possibility exists but the GOP may also be running a phony candidate so any real challenger to Boehner that may appear will split the vote with the phony so Boehner wins the primary in a three way race.

HA HA...trying to irritate you like some of the those other posters.

SOTH=Speaker of the House. A China's chance in hell is slang...the guy is wasting his time...he has not chance. So a better point to make is for Boehner to replaced as SOTH.

What on earth are you doing on Free Republic??? Mushy spineless "moderation" (the half-way house leading inevitably to the full sell out) is NOT conservatism. Can't find a mushy moderate website??? Wow, what a surprise!

Aren't 50+ million surgically sliced, diced and hamburgerized innocent babies and their ocean of innocent blood enough for you??? If you don't want to stop the slaughter, then don't pretend to be a Republican or even a sane "Independent."

If you really are an Independent, then whom the GOP House members choose as their leader or, for that matter, whom the Republican primary voters of Boehner's district select as the GOP nominee is none of YOUR business.

It is perfectly reasonable for Christians (by definition) to follow Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ was Our Savior and not a mere politician. God helps those who help themselves, however. It is also perfectly reasonable for American conservatives to emulate generals like George Washington, Andrew Jackson, Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, U. S. Grant, William Sherman, J. E. B. Stuart, Douglas MacArthur, George S. Patton, Jr., Curtis Lemay, Omar Bradley and Stormin' Norman Schwartzkopf in using force, violence and acts of war as necessary when determined to put a stop to the American Holocaust. If Planned Barrenhood doesn't like it, they can surrender like Saddam Hussein's elite troops. You don't like it? Tooooooo bad!

Glad to know that you are one less mush ball posing as Republican. The GOP seems a bit cleaner already. UpChuck Percy died today in an era when he could NEVER be nominated as a GOP Senate candidate. Lowell Weicker is about 81 years of age and weighs about 400 pounds. How far behind can he be??? Clifford Case, Charles Matthias, John Lindsay, and so many, many other fifth columnists in GOP drag are gone as well. That crowd only has a handful left: Snowe, Collins and Nancyboy Kirk. Such shame!!!

There are many other issues to be used against the gutless Bonehead and his Senate counterpart and the first of these is his/their craven capitulation on the raising of the debt limit, bullying of Tea Party freshmen, and general go along and get along attitude instead of scorching the da*n earth. He added $2.5 trillion to the election year allowance of Santa Obonzo to be laid upon Santa Obonzo's favorite groups like gummint labor unionists, gummint skewel "teachers," welfare queens and various criminals to be repaid with mucho interest by US taxpayers.

What on earth carnage could conservatives possibly inflict that would not be justified by the ending of the American Holocaust??? Maybe we ought to find out. 38 years of patience is a long, long time. When this war on the unborn has overturned Roe vs. Wade, it will also be a time to repay judicial tyranny and defang the SCOTUS and fedcourts once and for all.

"but most Americans don’t think this is the number 1 issue right now!!

Precisely why, IMHO, all this 2012 election hype is a waste of time. The time for reversing the tyranny we now exist within has long-since passed us by. Would that we had heeded the clearly stated warnings from 1904 to 1964.

Clearly a nation of voters that adheres to a scale of importance on which the slaughter of innocent children ranks "somewhere" down the list is a nation that has already bowed it's collective head and accepted the loss of freedom and liberty.

IMHO, a GOP win in 2012, while much preferred to to another 4-years of a Marxist presidency, will only be a short-term solution. There isn't a single GOPer on the horizon at this time who can offer, and adhere to, the long-term solution that will stop this reckless plunge deeper and deeper into permanent tyranny.

My huge store of real light bulbs is still on the endangered species list. If these pansies can't change anything as simple as this, what makes anyone think they are capable of tackling the really big links in the chains around our necks?

It is a waste of time for a one issue candidate to run, regardless of the value of that issue. I am pro-life and Planned Parenthood is a blight on this country.

Your words, " What separates these crimes to society from terminating a pregnancy is that the victim is a living, breathing, talking, thinking human being.....Crimes of violence against active members of society are the few I stand still for. "

I think you just revealed your worldview and philosophy very clearly here. Terminating a pregnancy means killing a baby, it is as simple as that. You don't think when the gruesome tactics are done to kill the baby that this is forcing someone's will on another? I guess the dividing line is that you don't see a baby as a worthwhile human, that it is okay to torture and kill an innocent baby because it can't yet "breath, talk, and think" and it is not "active". It sounds like you don't support a 'right to life" unless a person passes some test that makes them "worthwhile". Just as the Nazi's felt that those who were handicapped or mentally impaired had no right to life and were just "useless eaters"

http://www.ushmm.org/museum/exhibit/focus/disabilities/

On July 14, 1933, the German government instituted the “Law for the Prevention of Progeny with Hereditary Diseases.” This law called for the sterilization of all persons who suffered from diseases considered hereditary, including mental illness, learning disabilities, physical deformity, epilepsy, blindness, deafness, and severe alcoholism. With the law’s passage the Third Reich also stepped up its propaganda against the disabled, regularly labeling them “life unworthy of life” or “useless eaters” and highlighting their burden upon society.

The term “euthanasia” (literally, “good death”) usually refers to the inducement of a painless death for a chronically or terminally ill individual. In Nazi usage, however, “euthanasia” referred to the systematic killing of the institutionalized mentally and physically disabled. The secret operation was code-named T4, in reference to the street address (Tiergartenstrasse 4) of the program's coordinating office in Berlin.

Ashes from cremated victims were taken from a common pile and placed in urns without regard for accurate labeling. One urn was sent to each victim's family, along with a death certificate listing a fictive cause and date of death. The sudden death of thousands of institutionalized people, whose death certificates listed strangely similar causes and places of death, raised suspicions. Eventually, the Euthanasia Program became an open secret.

On August 18, 1939, the Reich Ministry of the Interior circulated a decree compelling all physicians, nurses, and midwives to report newborn infants and children under the age of three who showed signs of severe mental or physical disability. At first only infants and toddlers were incorporated in the effort, but eventually juveniles up to 17 years of age were also killed. Conservative estimates suggest that at least 5,000 physically and mentally disabled children were murdered through starvation or lethal overdose of medication.

The result of your "litmus test" for the determination of whether someone is worthy of protection of life against violence from another, leads to exactly this type of barbarism when followed through to its conclusion.

I am not going to go any further with this conversation as it is getting off track of the thread. I just couldn't let your statements stand here on Free Republic, a website that the owner, Jim, has stated clearly in many places is pro-life.

Yes, the most logical path would be to replace the limp, weepy noodle. I’m still glad someone has decided to challenge him!

"A sane and sober candidate would run on a variety of issues."

I strongly agree. A candidate who runs solely on abortion will get votes, but not enough to win.

"The country needs a 180 degree turn to end the annual defecits in our budgets and to stop increasing the national debt."

Any candidate running against someone else in the primaries and the general election needs to demonstrate clearly that their opponent has not understood those ideas and needs to be replaced by someone who does understand them and will do the utmost to implement them.

"The GOP leadership is not fully committed to those ideas yet. Paul Ryan had the best ideas I’ve heard of but the rest are not into dramatically downsizing federal spending."

Hence my distrust of McConnell and Boehner. Candidates who do not understand the need to downsize the Government, ruthlessly cut spending, and defund all things leftist cannot be worthy of being Tea Party. For the sake of the country, they need to retire and let sincere people rescue this great nation.

I don't have such a low regard for him as you seem to have. What does trouble me...is they HAVEN'T stop FUNDING obamacare....so it's goin' take a whole different leadership to accomplish what is needed, obviously.

Yes, good for the man that is challenging him.

don’t worry about central - he still thinks the Civil War is going on.

I live just to the east of Boehner’s district. Whoever this nobody is that is challenging him has absolutely zero shot at defeating him unless we get some naked pictures of Boehner with a house page or something.

The most press this guy will get will likely be right here on FR.

Perhaps you should review the speakership's positions and votes. He has not held the line but instead has "compromised". In the meantime, bills have gotten through the house which further restricts liberty. So yes, I guess I have a lower regard for Boehner than you have. He has NOT held the line. The time for tact and diplomcy is over. NO compromise...period.
