In a perverse way, this puts paid to the notion that socialized medicine would provide pain relief to the elderly, in lieu of other treatments. (Is beinign neglect a treatment?)

Such 'neglect' is actually FAR from benign, and could be considered malignant, in fact...

I agree. I was just using a phrase that I imagined apologists of the non-treatment using. My first sentence was (I hope) clearly sarcastic. Obviously, in the case of Sweden, the medical system doesn’t even provide pain relief.
