TRENDING: New book on Palin blasted as 'lies'

Washington (CNN) - Todd Palin released a scathing statement late Wednesday about author Joe McGinniss, whose new book about former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has grabbed internet and tabloid headlines, as well as received harsh criticism from The New York Times.

In a statement distributed to members of the media, Palin's husband said the book "is full of disgusting lies, innuendo and smears."

"This is a man who has been relentlessly stalking my family to the point of moving in right next door to us to harass us and spy on us to satisfy his creepy obsession with my wife," Palin said. "His book is full of disgusting lies, innuendo, and smears. Even The New York Times called this book 'dated, petty,' and that it 'chases caustic, unsubstantiated gossip.'"

McGinniss' book, "The Rogue," is set for publication next week and is the latest work from the bestselling author who first rose to national prominence with "The Selling of the President 1968," which described the marketing of Richard Nixon during the 1968 campaign. He subsequently wrote a crime trilogy and two controversial books about the Kennedy family.

It is trash. The only copies he’s going to sell are the ones he buys himself.

MSNBC will still love it. Crazy Larry O’Donnell will have a circle jerk with the author.

CNN still had to use the scare quotes with the word “lies”, though - Joe McGinnis is a stalker and a whackjob. I’m not the biggest Sarah Palin supporter, but I’d believe her over him any day of the week.

He will sell a few books, to the scummiest of the scum..the ones that have nothing better to do then read a book filled with gossip and untruths..it will crash and burn in a span of a month..its only tabloid trash..and McGinnis should be investigated because I think that someone who peers into the bedroom of a little girl(Piper Palin) might have some pedophilia in his past, I wouldn’t put it past him, he looks like the kind of guy you’d want to keep away from your kids

The Perry bots are going to love this.

MSNBC is all over it. They sent Savannah Guthrie to alaska to interview the creep. They have 8 minutes of BS on rotation every hour on MSNBC about this book.

Their anger and outrage is understandable, however, I believe it would have been better for the Palins to have ignored this, and not dignified it with a response. Their call, though.

Thought they were called Perrywinkles :)

Even if no copies of this book are sold, it will have served its purpose in generating "sourced" quotes, repeated over and over.

I agree I am back on forth on it....a few people I talked with this morning said they should just let it blow off, but then I reminded him that the McCain campaign pressed Sarah to limit her response to the trash then, we all know how far that got her.

I think that is her reasoning....not sure.

It is trash, and it shouldn't be getting any publicity.

Hey, by the way, I heard that Joe McGinniss had sex with multiple sled dogs at the Iditarod while he was in Alaska. An unnamed source told me!! Somebody get the National Enquiror on the line!

There are no sources in the book but anonymous sources in the book

Todd is a man and he deserves to be allowed to stand up for his wife. Todd has to tolerate his wife taking a lot of crap, but this is over the top.

I think it’s best that lies be refuted by the Palins.

GWB felt all the lies about him during his presidency were not worthy of his response, and now a lot of that BS is believed by idiots (like RAT voters) to be gospel truth.
