I think Sarah chose the phrase "tax benefit" accurately and deliberately. She knows that "tax credits" aren't the same as "tax refunds".

Tax benefit means nothing other than “Tax deduction”, like a person’s mortgage deduction or medical expenses or a business deducting depreciation. She clearly misused it, but since she is not a financial person she has to be cut some slack. It wouldn’t hurt for her to bone up on the terminology.
