For Perry, being governor has perks
Pollutico ^ | 9/12/2011 | KENNETH P. VOGEL

Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s humble origins and down home straight talk are central to his political identity, but for years Perry has enjoyed lavish perks and travel — mostly funded by a group of deep-pocketed supporters — that are allowed under his state’s lax ethics and campaign rules.

Some of the same Texas donors who have funded Perry’s political rise also have footed the bills for Perry and his family to jet around the world, stay in luxury hotels and resorts, vacation in tony Colorado ski towns, attend all manner of sporting events and concerts, and to maintain, entertain — and even pay the cable bill — at the 4,600-square-foot mansion with a heated pool that taxpayers are renting for him at a cost of about $8,500 a month.

And that’s to say nothing of the wide range of sometimes-expensive gifts Perry has accepted over the years, including 22 pairs of cowboy boots, Stetson hats, belt buckles, cuff links and at least nine hunting trips.

I am not worried about Perry’s travels. I am worried about the millions of illegals he is paying to travel to the US.

There is no doubt Perry is a crook. From his huge pay to play network set up in Texas to his “perks”. I don’t understand his support at all. Perry is for sale and will pursue the agenda of his donors. The red hot conservative rhetoric he throws around means nothing.

the wide range of sometimes-expensive . . . including 22 pairs of cowboy boots, Stetson hats, belt buckles, cuff links and at least nine hunting trips.

I'm sure that's considered a hanging offense among the metrosexuals who work at Politico.

I probably prefer Perry over anyone in the field right now, but last night’s debate hurt my opinion of him. He doesn’t seem to have the intellect and/or the passion to advance conservatism. That’s he’s been in gov’t since 1985 isn’t exactly something to be proud of.

It’s only wrong when a Dem/Michelle O. does it.

I think candidates like Governor Perry really do have good intentions, but are unable to find the courage to take a stand when it really counts.

But when they have a real leader to look up to, it’s different.

I believe a President Palin would inspire the best in all Americans, beginning with the task of eliminating corruption as much as possible.

I have seen absolutely no evidence that Perry is anything other than a typical career politician with all of the baggage of cronyism and corruption that entails.

So it’s his wife who wanted him to run and his wife who pushed for the Gardasil deal. Did she eat his homework too?

Uh, will you address the truth of the accusations, or just run interference for Perry?

Exactly, I’ve stated repeatedly that he has no passion on the illegal alien invasion and he’s the governor of a border state. NUTS!

I could not read the whole story, after page 3 it was as if I was reading about the Clintons/Obamas. Get elected and graze off the wealthy contributors to see the world.

Exactly. Perry's travels are financed by his supporters. Yes, it bothers me that they expect something in return and will (probably) in some cases get it. This is the crony capitalism which Sarah Palin rightly called to task.

But it bothers me more that OBozo is using taxpayer funds for lavish vacation trips for him and his family.

It bothers me still more that open borders zealots like OBozo and Perry are using taxpayer money to roll out the welcome mat for illegal aliens to colonize us.

And the media was freaking out because Sarah Palin wore a snowmobile jacket with a logo on it. Jeez.

He has no passion because he supports it. Like the Bush family, he somehow thinks that by adopting massive numbers of people from south of the border into our American family, they will magically turn into great American citizens. A few of them will, but most of these few will go through the legal process. The rest of them will bring the same third world values with them that they ran away from. It is exhbited in their voting behavior.
