I went to a New England Jesuit high school in the mid-late 1980s and most of the Irish Catholic kids (a significant % of the ~1000 member student body) were unrepentant supporters of Noraid, Sinn Féin and the IRA. They openly bragged about how they all knew the $$$ their families were sending to Noraid was really going to arm the IRA.
