MIAMI-DADE COUNTY A woman was killed by her own SUV Thursday night after she left it in reverse in a central Miami-Dade parking garage and the vehicle slammed into her, according to Miami-Dade police.
About 6:20 p.m., the woman began to pull out of a parking space at Burger King's corporate headquarters, 5505 Blue Lagoon Dr., police said.
While backing out, she hit a vehicle next to hers. She stopped and got out of her BMW SUV to check the damage, police spokesman Detective Roy Rutland said.

Was it named “Christine”?
Doesn’t sound like a very good driver. Sad.
It happened to a friend of mine. He got out to check some damage and his car ran over him
The poor woman. I can easily understand how this could happen. You hit the vehicle next to you and get very flustered, forget to put your car in Park, and BAM. Not always easy to keep your wits about you in stressful situations.
I can understand how this happened. She was so upset and shocked that she had hit someones car that she forgot to put it in park. Tragic mistake.
SUV’s = What happens when possessed 1950’s hotrods like “Christine” get old.
Nope, it’s the killer automatic transmissions that are at fault. Ban ‘em.
Yep - She’d be alive today if only she learned to drive a stick shift ...
I agree. And I’m sure some are thinking “stupid woman driver”. But I think it is also a freak accidient for one simple reason: When something really bad happens, people can do dumb things. I remember witnessing a really bad thing and I could not successfully dial 911. I kept screwing it up. It was a real eye opener for me.
This woman was shocked into just getting out of the car to see what happened and forgot to routinely put it in park before she did so.
This is sad, but it is a good lesson in why we need to respect the potential damage that can be done by a two or three ton vehicle at low speed.
Yep, ever try to push one of those things by hand?
Our brains are on over- drive with information. Wrong gear when your car needs you.
Automatics are why those 6 and 7 yr. olds can go joy riding in their parents' vehicles. Ban 'em, for the children of course.
So true!
>> Yep, ever try to push one of those things by hand?
Piece of cake! Downhill, anyway. Be sure and take the park brake off.
It’s a challenge on level ground, but that’s one reason I married Mrs. Tick. “My back hurts, honey! I’ll steer...”
Uphill? Fuhgettaboudit.
Now THIS incident really IS an evil SUV thing.
Do we really need any more reason to ban them forever? :-)
Darwin Award candidate.
Why hasn’t the SUV been charged?
Ever actually get one going pretty fast by pushing it on a flat surface, and then have to run to the front to slow it down without the brakes? It’s an “interesting” experience.
Woman in her 60's was going out to do some errands. Her garage door wans't working..they were coming the next day to fix it...She opens her garage door manually, then gets in the car, with her dog, a Jack Russell terrier. She backs the car out of the garage, puts it in park, gets out to close the garage door. The dog is excited...Russell's are by nature..and this is a change of routine...Dog stands up on the seat, his paw s on the dash..looking out at his mistress...he must have been jumping around, because he knocked the shift lever ( on the steering column) out of PARK, into DRIVE....car went forward, and crushed the lady to death against the garage door...she'd apparently just finished closing it, and was bending down in front of the car, and the dog lost sight of her, whuich was why it was jumping around...
Weird, eh?
