MILFORD — Verne Thayer never met Matthew Denice, but he felt compelled to attend the anti-illegal immigration demonstration held yesterday to support the family of a fellow motorcyclist.

"If someone's illegal.....

It took about ten years, but this issue is finally reached the boiling point in our town. Rain was coming down in buckets, but the crowd was undeterred. It was kind of commicle watching the illegals walking by the crowd. They would cross the street to avoid walking on the sidewalk on the same side as the protesters.

The mere presence of some 30 million illegals in America has a significant impact on our politics. Congressional numbers are set based on census numbers and 30 million illegals have likely led to the creation of dozens of illegitimate democrat seats.

Why the inside the beltway GOP chooses to make things harder for us is beyond me. I guess its a power thing. Once it becomes nearly impossible to get elected as a republican, they’ll just switch parties.

I read some of the Comments at the article site. I do believe that the town’s people are starting to get angry at the ‘powers-that-be’.

It took time for this problem to fester, how much time will it take to lance the boil and get the healing started?

“... how much time will it take to lance the boil and get the healing started?”

Who knows? But I doubt it will take another 10 years since we don’t have another 10 years worth of patience or money to fund illegal aliens and their spawn.

Even Democrats (like my brother) that never cared about the issue or were staunch supporters of illegals, are beginning to see the light.

I’m glad to hear that your brother is beginning to see the light. I personally haven’t seen that from the Democrats I know. But I do have some hope.

Perhaps the Democrats that you know just haven’t seen any impact on themselves yet from illegal immigration. In my experience with my brother, once he could clearly see the financial and social impact that illegal immigration had upon him and his families finances, quality of life and education, he did a complete 180 degree turn. He is now staunchly anti-illegal alien.

Also, based on my conversation with him during the family BBQ on Monday, I think there is a genuine possibility he may become a conservative, and perhaps a TEA Party supporter.

For me, this proves what I have always believed: The best way to turn a liberal into a conservative is to hit them in their pocketbook with their own policies. Liberals love to raise taxes and force all sorts of social engineering crap on the rest of us because they don’t perceive that it will impact them personally. But when it does, boy howdy, they bitch, moan, scream and wail “bloody murder” or “it’s not fair” or some other tripe.

Idiots!

This is similar to how things were before the run up to the first civil war, with exception of the source of the indentured servants. The names and places have changed, but the practices haven’t changed. The powers to be have a nation of over 100 million laborers south of the border to exploit, and unlike the slaves of the past, they will actually run to their new masters in the north to be exploited, rather than be subjected to the cruelty and hardship of their masters at home.

Established politicians of BOTH parties support the status quo of illegal aliens because so many industries depend on them. Our native birth-rate is below replacement levels, and demographically, in order to just maintain the economy....let alone help it grow, a steady flow of cheap manual labor is needed, in primarily agriculture and related industries—and Mexico and Latin America is happy to provide it.

Overhauling the system to allow for an orderly, legal, guest-worker program would be costly—in both dollars, and politically—so no one in power is motivated to rock the boat. Besides that, any sort of reform would likely cost illegal-dependent industries (like fruit harvesting or even, now construction...such as it is in this economy) LOTS of money—as it’s much easier to pay under the table, not worrying about min. wage or social security or other regulations and taxes. Hence BOTH parties are under huge pressures from major constituents to leave everything as it is...

Ironically, Democrat resistance to changing the current system, in the name of “compassion” for illegals—fosters the current exploitation illegals face in their underground jobs.

Only popular pressure from the heartland will push politicians to do the right thing, closing the borders, and working out what to do with the 30 mil. already here—who will NEVER be forced to leave....as that is politically and economically impossible, and would even require a police state to enforce.

We've had guest worker programs since my childhood nearly 50 years ago. In fact I met one of my oldest friends when his family migrated through every year until they gained citizenship.

My wife and I are “young” seventy year olds. We have seen an interesting trend when some teachers/school administrators and principals, we know, retire.

They still are democrats, but they have become very outspoken about the illegals.

Over the past 3 decades, they have seen the damage the illegal spawn have done to their schools from diverting money for good students to teaching the illegals how to speak/read English and to do basic math. Then, the illegal gang violence and bullying in schools gets worse each day.

The sad thing is most will continue to vote for the rats, who enable and reward the illegals.

Our native birth-rate is below replacement levels, and demographically, in order to just maintain the economy....let alone help it grow, a steady flow of cheap manual labor is needed, in primarily agriculture and related industries—and Mexico and Latin America is happy to provide it.

FYI: The US fertility rate is 2.06 children born/woman (2011 est.) which is about just at replacement level of 2.1. But not to worry, immigration, legal and illegal, will continue to fuel our population growth, highest among any developed country in the world. We are well on our way to half a billion people in the next 75 years.

The U.S. adds one international migrant (net) every 36 seconds. Immigrants account for one in 8 U.S. residents, the highest level in more than 80 years. In 1970 it was one in 21; in 1980 it was one in 16; and in 1990 it was one in 13. In a decade, it will be one in 7, the highest it has been in our history. And by 2050, one in 5 residents of the U.S. will be foreign-born.

Currently, 1.6 million legal and illegal immigrants settle in the country each year; 350,000 immigrants leave each year, resulting in a net immigration of 1.25 million. Since 1970, the U.S. population has increased from 203 million to 310 million, i.e., over 100 million. In the next 40 years, the population will increase by 130 million to 440 million. Three-quarters of the increase in our population since 1970 and the projected increase will be the result of immigration. The U.S., the world’s third most populous nation, has the highest annual rate of population growth of any developed country in the world, i.e., 0.977 percent (2010 estimate), principally due to immigration.

87 percent of the 1.2 million legal immigrants entering annually are minorities as defined by the U.S. Government and almost all of the illegal aliens are minorities. By 2019 half of the children 18 and under in the U.S. will be classified as minorities and by 2039, half of the residents of this country will be minorities. Generally, immigrants and minorities vote predominantly for the Democrat Party. Hence, Democrats view immigration as a never-ending source of voters that will make them the permanent majority party.

The latest data show 22.1 million immigrants holding jobs in the U.S. with an estimated 8 million being illegal aliens. By increasing the supply of labor between 1980 and 2000, immigration reduced the average annual earnings of native-born men by an estimated $1,700 or roughly 4 percent. Among natives without a high school education, who roughly correspond to the poorest tenth of the workforce, the estimated impact was even larger, reducing their wages by 7.4 percent. The reduction in earnings occurs regardless of whether the immigrants are legal or illegal, permanent or temporary. It is the presence of additional workers that reduces wages, not their legal status.

The Bureau of Labor statistics for August 2011 show a national unemployment rate of 9.1 percent, including 16.7 percent for blacks and 11.3 percent for Hispanics. 25 million Americans are seeking full-time employment. Despite the economic downturn, the U.S. continues to bring in 125,000 new, legal foreign workers a month. This includes new permanent residents (Green Cards) and long-term temporary visas and others who are authorized to take a job. This makes no sense.
