Well...let's not get all hasty and such. Might get a vapor lock or something.

Bad for the heart, you see.

I’m seeing a pattern here: pollsters are telling the dems that all the rules and regulations are being seen as suffocating all in their path. With great fanfate, obama stops a few fed regs going through (for now), and the high priest of nouvelle marx does the same thing vis a vis helmet laws for young skiers. Too little, too late, too bad.

I was the very first liberal in my family; boy, were they upset. They were all Southern Democrats; I was a Republican. I’m still a Republican, as is the rest of my family NOW. Actually, I’m a conservative, but I’ve never changed.

Like the story of the old farmer driving his pick-up whose wife complained he didn’t sit as close as in their courting days, “I ain’t moved.”

'Not every human problem deserves a law'

He CAN'T BE a proper Progressive. They believe laws are the ONLY way to resolve ANY problem or facet of human existence.

California Vehicle Code, Division 12, Chapter 5, Article 7, Section 27803.

“(a) A driver and any passenger shall wear a safety helmet meeting requirements established pursuant to Section 27802 when riding on a motorcycle, motor-driven cycle, or motorized bicycle.
“(b) It is unlawful to operate a motorcycle, motor-driven cycle, or motorized bicycle if the driver or any passenger is not wearing a safety helmet as required by subdivision (a).
“(c) It is unlawful to ride as a passenger on a motorcycle, motor-driven cycles, or motorized bicycle if the driver or any passenger is not wearing a safety helmet as required by subdivision (a).
“(d) This section applies to persons who are riding on motorcycles, motor-driven cycles, or motorized bicycles operated on the highways.
“(e) For the purposes of this section, ‘wear a safety helmet’ or ‘wearing a safety helmet’ means having a safety helmet meeting the requirements of Section 27802 (see :Standards” below) on the person’s head that is fastened with the helmet straps and that is of a size that fits the wearing person’s head securely without excessive lateral or vertical movement.
“(f) In enacting this section, it is the intent of the Legislature to ensure that all persons are provided with an additional safety benefit while operating or riding a motorcycle, motor-driven cycle, or motorized bicycle.”

Actually, it’s deeper than that. It is like a “show your work” math problem in a test. He wins because of his comments. They are actually what used to be considered common sense and is now far right wing. I applaud his thinking more than his decision.

I think we’ll see more of it. More and more the numbers are dictating what’s practical. Excesses can’t be hidden or sustained the way the used to be.

I have a cousin, a former US Senator, that pined for the days they used to hope a private corporate jet, fly to Miami to see a fight, and then fly home - all on the company’s nickel. Never saw an issue with it.

He got hit by the nannygate thing, the congressional check kiting office thing, even the S&L mess - survived them all. Never even occurred to him.

You just can’t get away with it any more.

We shouldn’t underestimate the power of the new tea party mentality. A lot of the democrat nastiness directed at the tea party is fear and some democrats would rather not be on the receiving end of tea party anger.

In Michigan, one of our democrat legislators announced his retirement and immediately turned on the teacher’s union.

>>Melton announced this week that he is resigning from the Legislature to become national legislative director for Michelle Rhee’s StudentsFirst. Rhee, an Ann Arbor native and former chancellor of public schools in Washington, D.C., started StudentsFirst in 2010 as a nonprofit organization that promotes education reforms. It is already on the “political enemies” list of teacher unions at the national level.<<
