Tea Party Heroines Bachmann and Palin Condemn Jimmy Hoffa

Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin (who has yet to announce her candidacy) have both come out hard against incendiary comments Teamsters union boss James Hoffa made against the Tea Party and GOP during a raucous Labor Day Rally in Detroit.

<snip>

In response, Bachmann, the Minnesota congresswoman told her supporters in an email: "Hoffa and his well-funded liberal allies are scared of our momentum, and will do anything to try and silence our voices. But, we won't go quietly into the night. Will you follow this link and make a donation to help me defend myself against their profane and vicious attacks?"

Bachmann also sought contributions for her campaign, asking supporters to “level the playing field” with labor.

Interesting responses.

Bachmann asks for money.

Palin asks rank and file union members to join her against the elite union leadership.

Her FaceBook posting was posted here several times.

Other than that, I think the Hermanator (Herman Cain) is the only other Republican who has commented on Hoffa's comments.

Should we vote for any candidate who does not come out with strong condemnation for what the demonrats are saying and doing?

Give me a candidate with some stones.

Hoffa has done more to make his union look like a bunch of street thugs than anything the candidates can say. This whole thing is backfiring on them. The only people this stooge Hoffa fired up is the Tea Party and the Right. Screw you Jimmy.

“Hoffa and his well-funded liberal allies are scared of our momentum”

Of course they're scared of us. They've failed miserably and now everybody knows it. They will lose BIG in 2012 if we don't split the ticket.

People who make threats are generally scared of something.

Look for the Union label, and refuse to purchase.

I hear you on the fact that Bachmann used it as fund raising opportunity. The fact remains, her statements about the unions and what they have done to our economy was stronger than Palins by far. I prefer Palin to Bachmann generally, but MB is more on point here.

What I wish Palin would recognize, and I generally support her, is that most unions folks are not like her parents or her husband. They are like the goons who cheered Hoffa. She calls them brothers and sisters? Sorry, I cannot agree with that. They hate the tea party.

Sarah will use Hoffa's words to weaken him and pull morally minded and rooted members away from him.

Hoffa is a thug, reminiscent of fascist thugs from the past.

The message to Hoffa should be simple and direct. Patriotic Americans put down fascist thugs once...if necessary, we will do so again.

Bachmann is running for President. They need money when they run because they can no longer use PAC funds.

Palin is not running at this time as you well know. I have seen many times she has asked for PAC contributions through PAC emails and such.

to help me defend myself

OK, that came across as a little self-absorbed. Hoffa didn't threaten her personally.

Bachmann - like most Conservatives - would make a great President - but she should make sure to re-read this stuff before it gets sent out.

Sorry, I cannot agree with that. They hate the tea party.

About 40% of them are Republicans. And maybe another 10% of them are reachable. I guess it does no harm to start off with civility.

I hope you are right and I am wrong. I really do. Seems like 99% of them that show their colors are Dems, so I doubt the 40% but again, HOPE I”M WRONG. I doubt 10% more can be reached, but hope I’m wrong about that.

And she didn’t start out civil - she almost pandered by using “brothers and sisters” — she went way beyond civil. Again, I hope to be wrong but it harmed her reputation with me and perhaps others.

Like I said, I’d happily be wrong about all of this.

I believe your experience with unions is rather localized.

Dependent on whether or not Union Membership is Required or whether or not the Union is the sole arbitrar of contract issues for a given Employer you will see much different results than what you have stated.

It also varies by what region/state you are in as well.

You are right, my experience is as sparse and isolated and few and far between as I can make it....no doubt. And my reaction is more visceral than academic on this. I do know that Hoffa has them cheering one day after calling us SOB’s and the next she is addressing ostensibly the same folks and calling them brothers and sisters.

Just seemed like a disconnect and it left me with chills. I hope her strategy works, and I do think she remains tainted by her personal experience (in the opposite way I perhaps am).
