LANTANA, Fla. -- Authorities say a woman was accidentally shot by her boss at a South Florida convenience store.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office reports that the boss was apparently showing the woman the gun Saturday afternoon when it went off. The ricocheted and hit the woman.
The Palm Beach Post reports that the boss drove the woman to a nearby medical center. Officials say her injuries don't appear to be life-threatening.

No such thing as an accidental shooting. Only a negligent one.

“...when it went off. “
I love the quasi-passive construction here. Guns just “go off.” If it was a semi-automatic, the owner obviously didn’t drop the magazine and clear the chamber before he showed it. If it was a revolver, he didn’t unload it. And even if loaded, revolvers are really hard to have “go off” unless you deliberately squeeze the trigger hard.
And “it” can’t just “go off” if you follow really simple and basic gun safety instructions. The shop owner has no business having guns around if he doesn’t have a better handle on gun safety than he does.

Hope this costs the shop owner dearly in money and/or time.
Both actions - pointing the gun at the clerk - and in-actions - not unloading and clearing - should have consequences for more than just the victim.

Dats no way to impress de ladies.Fer sure - the gun must have been turned on by her and went off prematurely - "half-cocked" per se. I think maybe, as people take on the characteristics of their pets, guns take on the characteristics of their owners.

I take great umbrage at being called a nitwit. I had a 454 Casull go off by itself. ( I did call myself an idiot the first two times). After the third ACCIDENTAL DISCHARGE, I was certain I did not have my finger on the trigger.
It was afairly new gun, so I sent it back to the factory where it was discovered that half the sear had broken off. It would hold most of the time, but let go suddenly on occasion.
My point is; There ARE accidental discharges. We don’t have all the facts in this case and making assumptions has the effect of making asses out of all of us. ASS_U_ME.

the boss was apparently showing the woman the gun Saturday afternoon when it went offall by itself. So that's what they mean when they call it an automatic. Obviously the gun detected something about the woman that was wrong and took matters into its own hands (so to speak).
