BATON ROUGE, La. — The number two ranking member of the state House is becoming a Republican.

Rep. Joel Robideaux of Lafayette has been a lifelong independent, but he announced Thursday he's switching to the GOP.

The change comes as Robideaux is hoping to become House speaker in the next term that begins in January — in a chamber that is majority Republican.

Robideaux says he decided to become a Republican after discussing a possible switch with GOP Gov. Bobby Jindal.

"I have prided myself on being able to work with everyone, no matter their party affiliation, and to forge coalitions and consensus to pass legislation beneficial to our state and our citizens. This will not change. I simply believe I can do the most good by aligning myself with the party," Robideaux said in a statement.

Robideaux was elected to the House in 2004, in a special election. He was elected speaker pro tem by the House in 2010 after a divisive battle for the position.

The addition of Robideaux to Republican ranks will boost the GOP to 57 seats in the 105-member House.

Being a RINO is a condition that defines itself ~ just like being gay ~ you do it, you are gay.

Being a RINO is easy. First, you get yourself elected to public office ~ and you are not a Republican.

Then, you find that your avenue to higher office is stymied by (1) the Democrat bosses won't let you advance as fast as you'd like, or (2) you are a Independent (probably uniquely so in all American history) and you need a party affiliation to get that next higher office.

This guy decided he doesn't want to run as a Democrat, but he does want higher office so he's signed on with the Republicans.

He is, in fact, a RINO.

There are people who try to match up RINO with Liberal but that's simply a Koinkydink brought about by the times where the "less Liberal" Democrats have had to deal with power mad insanely intolerant Far Leftwingtard Democrat bosses. So, they jumped to the Republicans ~ they bring their Leftwingtard foolishness with them of course ~ but they are RINOs.

The days of the Conservative RINOS are over which is why I am opposed to offering any RINO the opportunity to take any Republican top position.

Robideaux may be different ~ I just don't know ~ but if he's a typical recent RINO he's a mind-numbed robot-like Leftwingtard as well. Still, he's probably not a COMBOT but that can't be ruled out. Someone better do a thorough examination of how this guy has been voting.

Katrina killed the Louisiana dem party. Jindal is up for reelection in October and nobody with statewide recognition has jumped into the election.

This guy decided he doesn't want to run as a Democrat,

mu, Roubidoux first stood for office as an Independent in 2004. He's still an Independent.

I’m not sure but the problem becomes all politicians who want to get elected from anywhere but the inner cities will declare themselves Republican in Louisiana. The difference between R and D in this state is much less pronounced that in other areas. Many D’s are socially conservative.
