?If the $166 is the minority of what the dues are, what do the teachers get assessed on average, per year?

about 4-5 hundred.
Enough so that when they erroneously boast about getting you a four percent raise (2% of state plus 2% of local pay), you find yourself better served by dropping out and saving your dues.
There is an alternative for many:

The Christian Educator’s Association.
Has liability insurance, costs way less, doesn’t pressure the workers, or send money to you know who.
