An 18-year-old gang member has pleaded not guilty in the death of a pizza delivery man who was killed in a car-to-car shooting.
Jose Beltran is accused in the murder of Juan David Vasquez, 25. A judge Wednesday increased his bail from $1 million to $3 million.
Vasquez was shot in the head in what authorities are calling a road-rage incident while driving two co-workers home in the early morning hours of August 7. The youngest of four children, Vasquez worked two jobs to help support his family. He was a bus boy at one restaurant and delivered pizzas for another.
LAPD officials say good old-fashioned police work led to Beltran’s arrest.
Rampart detectives found a gun when they pulled Beltran over on Aug. 19. He was driving without a license.
Detectives then linked him to the shooting at the intersection of Silver Lake Boulevard and West Scott Place.
“Using excellent investigative techniques, detectives were able to identify the suspect as Jose Beltran,” Capt. William Murphy said.
Beltran lives with his mother, not far from the crime scene police said. Officials said Beltran was identified as the murder suspect by two witnesses.
Vasquez’s mother took her son off life support on her birthday. She returned his body to Mexico last week for burial.

If you have not been to Los Angeles (or for a long time), areas like Rampart, East LA, North/West Valley, Oxnard and around Dodger Stadium, north of Downtown are nearly 100% Mexican areas where most people there are illegal or anchor babies with illegals attached.
I would estimate that there are 5 million illegal aliens in LA, OC and SD counties, alone.
I have no idea about this gang shooting, it’s sad, but when you see the “working two jobs” and “funeral in Mexico” you can bet with 99% certainty he did not have legal papers.
