Indiana 'Survivor' Weighs Libertarian Candidacy

INDIANAPOLIS -- Former "Survivor" contestant Rupert Boneham, of Indianapolis, is considering a run for governor of Indiana

Boneham, 47, has formed an exploratory committee to possibly seek the Libertarian Party's nomination for governor.

He said on his campaign website that the current field of candidates doesn't understand the problems average Hoosiers face.

"I do not see anyone that has an understanding of what daily life is like for many Hoosiers nor anyone who appears to understand the harm that misguided government policies are doing to our communities," Boneham said on his website. "It is obvious that career politicians are not the answer because they are often the problem."

He cited his extensive work on behalf of troubled teenagers with his charity, Rupert's Kids, as his chief qualities.

"I have operated my charity for over 20 years without government handouts. Over time, it has become more difficult to help people because of government red tape and roadblocks," Boneham said. "This has prompted my decision to explore bringing back the principles of hard work and self-reliance to Hoosier government."

The bushy-bearded Boneham know for wearing tie-dyed shirts competed in 2003 on "Survivor: Pearl Island" and has been on multiple "Survivor" follow-ups since then.

Boneham won $1 million in a vote of fan favorites of "Survivor" in 2004.

Great guy, but somehow I just don't think he would do well with many of the more complex issues a Governor would need to comprehend.

well, all those professional, PoliSci-degreed politicians have screwed up most everything in this country at every level of government. *if* the job appears too complex for ordinary citizens, perhaps government has gotten too big for its britches.
