I got 26 cents posted to my interest bearing checking account last month. I had a pretty high average (>3K) though cause I was sweeping in from savings to pay some bills.

If I had left it my savings account I would have earned ~$1.98. I'm retired (non Union non public employee non military) so I haven't felt the need or requirement to buy cars, houses, etc.

My SS check has had no COLA for a long long time. Saw tomatoes in the local grocery store yesterday for $5.99 lb. Is there a COLA for tomatoes?

By "long time" you mean two years. In fact, three years ago you got the largest COLA in more than a quarter century—5.8%. It's expected a small COLA will come for 2012.
