Pataki plans 'major announcement' Saturday in Iowa

Former New York Gov. George Pataki (R) plans a "major announcement" Saturday in Iowa, prompting speculation about a late entry into the field of Republican presidential candidates.

Pataki, who's said before that he didn't plan to run in 2012, but has left the door ajar to changing his mind, will attend a local Republican fundraiser in Polk County on Saturday.

A spokesman told CBS News that the former governor is now "seriously considering" a bid after saying in June he was "not running now."

Pataki's spent most of the year in charge of a group he founded, No American Debt, meant to "advance the national dialogue about America’s debt crisis." That's meant trips by Pataki to traditional stomping grounds for presidential candidates, such as Iowa and New Hampshire.

His candidacy would be a long shot, despite Pataki's history as a Republican governor of one of the largest states. His candidacy would presumably appeal to centrists in the Republican Party — he favors abortion rights and same-sex marriage.

I don't regard this as bad news at all. The conservative, patriotic, constitutional vote is being split among a number of candidates. The more liberal, treasonous, RINO, progressive, homosexualist candidates who get in the race, the more that vote will be divided, as well.

He’s not going to run, he’s just going to finally come out of the closet.

Pataki should team up with Huntsman. The milquetoast Rino ticket!

How much debt did this guy run up as NY governor?

Didn’t he spend his last term giving the store away to the unions?

This guy might replace Huntsman as my least favorite.

A NY RINO is the equivalent of a centrist Democrat.

He’ll be the bathroom break for every Republic debate.

He can join Huntsman in the two percenter’s club. I suppose if anything good comes out of this, him and Huntsman can pull some of the RINO vote from Romney.

Huntsman is really hoping Pataki jumps in. He is so lonely at the back of the pack. He would love the company.

I agree, this is good news as this could peel votes away from ROmney. I hope Giuliani gets in as well and he might. Romney and Giuliani hate each other.

“Pataki plans ‘major announcement’ Saturday in Iowa”

Sarah Palin I could understand. Where are all the voters clamoring for Pataki to enter the race? I’ve never met a Pataki supporter.
