A Christian family consisting of 26 persons, including women and children, lived in slavery for over 30 years. Forced to work on a farm belonging to a wealthy Muslim landowner Rahim Yar Khan, in a district of the province of Punjab, only recently managed to regain freedom. Reduced to servitude for three decades, the family members escaped their captor through the intervention of the leaders of the Catholic Diocese of Bahawalpur. Meanwhile the abduction of Christian girls, forced to marry Muslim men and forcibly converted to Islam, continue. The latest incident took place at Quetta: the young girl, after two years of prison, managed to escape and is now in an undisclosed location under threat of death.
About 30 years ago Zulfiquar Masih, a Christian from Rahim Yar Khan, signed a loan to raise enough money for his daughters marriage. The interest rate rocketed to touch 500% making it impossible to pay off the debt. For this the entire family was segregated by force in a private jail and forced to work for Basharat Ali Gulo, a Muslim farmer and company owner. Enslaved for three decades, the family managed to free itself through the intervention of the Catholic leaders of Bahawalpur. On behalf of the diocese Fr. Samuel Rafael, filed a complaint against Basharat Ali at the High Court. And the judges have ordered the release of the family, until then held in forced labor.
Speaking to AsiaNews Fr Rafael said that "thousands of workers are kept in conditions of slavery across Pakistan today." In Sindh province the Hindus are kept in slavery for generations by the feduals. We condemn such acts and will fight for the Christians in slavery. We have raised the matter to the concerned authorities. It is a clear violation of human rights."

It really bugs me when I hear about Americans pining about the awful treatment that Americans that lived 160 years ago suffered.
I mean, if slavery bothers you so much, than start doing something for those in countries where slavery still exists!
Sage advice.
But if your a useful idiot on the democrat plantation, and will never realize it, then liberty and freedom for anyone means nothing to you.
Yet MSNBC and CNN, talking points, priceless chains for democrats and the uninformed.
The original loan applicant signed a deal with the devil. Never, never borrow, says so in the Bible.
The interest rate skyrocketed to
500%
I thought muzzies can’t use
interest?
Just another double standard?
Of course, the whole story is
horrible; God must allow them
to keep breathing for some reason.
Didn’t you get the memo?
Slavery is only bad when it was your long dead ancestors and you can swing that fact like a bludgeon against the heads of people whom you hate.
These living Christian slaves don’t count, besides mohammedan are like any other child with a weapon, they tend to kill you if you take away their toys and no one wants to risk that.
I got a wild hair a while back and decided that I had to go see the Punjab Rodeo.
Now I am glad I never acted upon it.
“The interest rate rocketed to touch 500% making it impossible to pay off the debt.”
Wow! I didn’t know Punjab had MoneyTrees!
Please note that if banks in the US give Sharia Law loans (no interest), these loans will not be given to non-muslims. The rest of us will pay interest as always. Talk about discrimination.
2 problems here:
1: Don’t take on loans you cant pay and declare bankruptcy if you can’t pay em.
2: It is inexcusable to to impose a contractual obligation on to any non-signatory party of the contract. Non-signatory includes anyone and everyone who did not themselves individually agree to the contract.
Including but not limited to the children, grandchildren, and spouse of the signatory.
There’s also a whole issue about slavery.
“Theres also a whole issue about slavery.”
Define “Slavery”. If a man is in debt to anther man I would call it just for that man to be made to labor to pay off that debt. But such debt must be contracted and CANNOT be passed on to any other man (including children or spouse) without their individual consent.
I also recognize the possibility for a man to declare bankruptcy and a goverment to allow and recognize such a deceleration and thus discourage the lender from allowing his lendees to assume more debt then they can pay off.
That would be an unenforceable personal service contract, and it's one of the definitions of a bondman, aka slave. He owes him money, nothing more, and loaning money is as much as risk as borrowing it.

Which is why some men can’t get loans, they have no assured means of inquiring the “money” the lender wants. Were they free to contract labor instead of “money” they might be able to obtain a lone. Which in this context might be seen as payment in advance, with the flexible option of worker choosing his means of labor up until a point of failure.
