Soft Economy Lingers in Obama Vacation Spot

EDGARTOWN, Mass.—The ferries to Martha’s Vineyard are packed, and the luxury vacation rentals at this affluent summer colony are filling up faster than last year.

But during his nine-day visit here, President Barack Obama will find a local economy still trying to find its footing. While there are signs of improvement, business owners remain cautious and slow to hire. That has kept the unemployment rate up and the locals on edge.
