Ill. judge rules against Catholics on foster care

An Illinois judge ruled Thursday that the state can stop working with Catholic Charities on adoptions and foster care placements — something the state decided to do in July after the not-for-profit agency refused to recognize Illinois' new civil unions law.

In his ruling, Sangamon County Circuit Judge John Schmidt said that no one, including Catholic Charities, has a legal right to a contract with the state government. He did not address the more sensitive issue of whether a state contractor that refuses to serve gays and lesbians is violating the state's new civil unions law.

The state Department of Children and Family Services ended $30 million in contracts with Catholic Charities in four church dioceses in July, but Schmidt had temporarily reinstated them while he considered the case.

Illinois authorities had said they were canceling the contracts because Catholic Charities' practice of referring unmarried couples to other agencies was discriminatory, a violation of the state's civil union law. Catholic Charities argued it was exempt under civil unions and another state law that protect religious practices.

Illinois appears to be turning into the California of the Midwest. Good grief. My SIL, who lives in Illinois, is in a bubble that doesn’t recognize what is happening in the rest of the state. As long as it doesn’t touch her personally, she doesn’t care. Seems so wrong right in the heartland.

“Judge John Schmidt said that no one, including Catholic Charities, has a legal right to a contract with the state government.”

No part of the state government, including Judge Schmidt, has a right to discriminate against Catholics because of their religious views.

Mark, my words, the Catholic Church will not lower themselves to the standards set by the state of IL.

Just as happen when MA. said that the Catholic Church could not restrict adoption to gay couples, the Church pulled all their adoption agencies from the state.

It will not be long before Obamacare has all Catholic Hospitals in the country forced to close their doors because they will not permit abortions.

Really sad and horrid commentary on "modern" life. Yes, the first hospital as we would know them, was in eastern Europe before the Schism, but it was run by a religious order. Nursing and healing the sick was the work of so many orders and the legacy is being destroyed by the seduction of sin. Just horribly sad.

It is not your father's Democrat party, that's for sure. The Democratic Party for all its faults was at one time pro-life but then at that time nobody believed that abortion, which as a crime, would become a highly-valued civil right. I can still hear Ted Kennedy bellowing away—”I will support a woman's right to choose!”.

Shame on the millions of Catholics and others who continued to support the party of abortion for forty years.

All politicians who do not publically denounce abortion and gay marriage should be kicked out of the Knights of Columbus. Many Democrat politicians belong to this organization and use it as a base to organize and get votes. I have read that they are even working within the KOC to supress any discussion of political issues that might clash with the left wing Democrats. Where are the complaints about separation of church and state? The state is meddling in the affairs of a private religious organization— the Knights of Columbus.

First, the law is clear. Everyone has a legal right to contract with government. State, federal, city, etc.

I do have a legal right to engage in contracts with government. Check out fedbizops or fedquotes, bidsync or simply google bidding government contracts. Also, the government has no legal rights to limit my competition in those bids.

There are a lot of old-time Roosevelt Democrats who didn't get the memo. I had a Democratic landlord who was utterly blind to the horrific corruption.

She has ALOT of company.

There is nothing wrong with this country that can not ultimately be tracked back to voters shirking their civic responsibilities.

I think the best response to this is for the church to subvert the State of Illinois’ homosexual attraction in a way they cannot stop.

That is, Illinois is bordered by Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Indiana and Kentucky. The church can set up adoption facilities just over the border in each of these states.

Then it can start a publicity campaign in Illinois, both for parents who want to adopt, and for those who wish to surrender their children for adoption.

“It is very hard to give your child up for adoption, and it doesn’t make it any easier to not know if your child will have normal adoptive parents to raise them and give them a good life, or people who will just adopt them for their own purposes. But the Catholic church is here to guarantee that they will have a mother and a father while they grow up.

“The State of Illinois is willing to sacrifice your child’s well being by giving them to anyone who wants them, for whatever reason. And they won’t let the Catholic church care for their well being either, so we will not be party to their unwholesome agenda.

“Just by crossing the state border, in any direction, the Catholic church will be there to help you and your child, and guarantee them a real future, with real parents.

“We are truly saddened that the State of Illinois wants to put the desires of adults over the well being of children, but this is what they have chosen to do.

“So if you need to put your child up for adoption, talk to us first. And if you are a married couple, who wish to adopt and become the mother and father of a child, talk to us first as well.”

The headline here should read that the judge rules against kids. Catholic Charities refuse to place kids with homosexual “couples” because they believe children have the right to be raised in a wholesome environment. And that they also have a right to be free of sexual molestation and interference. MSM, TV sitcoms, and homosexual lobby disinformation to the contrary, homosexuals are far more likely to molest children than are non homosexuals. Around the same time the phony Duke Lacrosse sex assault case was being trumpeted to the world, the MSM was busy covering up a real sexual molestation case involving Duke-connected homosexuals who were interfering with male foster children. You can bet neither this hack judge, nor Democratic Legislative boss Madigan would leave one of their own kids or granddkids even one night with people they knew to be homosexuals. Governor Quinn, who led the charge to push Catholic Charities out of foster care services, is a lifelong bachelor who has no kids and could care less about them. The wealthy homosexuals who infest Chicago have given him and the Party of Deviancy tens of thousands of dollars. That is all he cares avbout. The future of the hard-luck kids who find themselves in foster care is the last thing on his mind.

The Children Protection Services or whatever state agency it is called in various states has been taken over by hard core liberals. I sat in a foster parenting class before where two "she's" boasted about how they had the foster kids running their house for them.

I can't speak about other states but in Tennessee it is one big huge Liberal Agenda Driven program. Forget the kids you're going to hear about precious "Mommy" who let her live in B.F. have his way with the kids and stands by her man. Once kids are taken into custody even for very serious abuse or neglect the Department Of Children Services starts it's reunification program which will include the state agency therapist shopping to make Dear "Mommy" and BF look like Ward and June. High dollar defense lawyers and Liberal Judges also push it.

I ran into several foster parents while attending clases who were wanting to adopt. I would tell them after class to go through Catholic Services as DCS in our state in general usually never allows adoption unless the mother signs away her parental rights. Most judges will not terminate and allow the parents years to play the system. That means an abused kid age 5 can easilly time out at age 18 still in the system and still in foster care with their relatives not allowed too adopt them but parents still in their lives. What is worsre if a relative does take them in they forever loose their rights to talk about niece, nephew, or grandkids they took in.

I can't speak of the specifics of the case I was involved in except it was a kinship foster care. My wife, the kids we took in, and my own life were made a living hell by the parents, a B.F. and DCS. If you don't follow their Liberal philosophies and let the so called Mother run roughshod over you and the abused kids because she is kin then they will have no use for you as a foster parent.

I watch persons I could tell were conservative and Christian sit and listen to the nonsense. One class an instructor handed us a questionnaire to fill out. Here was a few of the questions. When was the first time you had sex? Who was it with? When was the last time you had sex? Who was it with? About three quarters of the foster parents started writing answers. My wife and I just sat there. I was ready to tell her point blank it was none of her or the states business. After about 10 minutes her charade was up. It was some stupid point she wanted to make "this is how the kids feel when parents question them" kind of crap. The Liberal was too stupid to realize that parents have a moral GOD given duty to ask those sort of questions of their kids for their own protection.

I do wonder if Liberal's would ask a kid who was the first person who molested/raped you? Any odds on if it was the mother or a gay family member they would say "well those things happen forgive and forget and be one big happy family"?
