There would be huge tax evasion, bartering, underground sales, etc...

Unlike now where all criminal activity is exempt from the Income tax;...

At least with a sale tax the 50% who do not pay any income tax, would also be paying their “fair share”.

1) So we will make the entire American population into either tax-paying chumps or tax-evading criminals. Sweet. Actually everybody will be criminals, the corruption of the black market will seduce everybody sooner or later. The only question will be: How much do you cheat? That's all? You pansy!

2) You don't understand the Fair Tax proposal. The people who don't pay their fair share will be sent quarterly checks as refunds of the Fair Tax they theoretically do pay. Note the word theoretically. Of course that is only if the Fair Tax proposal is actually passed and never amended. No chance of that - Congress will screw with the original law (count on it) before it is ever passed and over time will add to the quarterly refund checks and turn them into an another Government Free Giveaway. We need so many more of those.

I agree. I have a real problem with the “prebate” concept conditioning people into getting their monthly government check. And there would have to be a massive government bureaucracy to administer it and keep track of everyone. I think it would be much better to exempt necessities such as food, articles of clothing costing under $50.00 and medicine.

That would cancel out all the whining about the “poor”.

I also like the flat tax concept but what about those who don’t have earned income but plenty of money, like Buffet.
