alstewartfan:
I’d still regard Perry as a shyster. Please tell me why you think Perry scheduled his FIRST-TIME mega prayer meeting a few days before he announced, if there is a sincere bone in his body. “Calling all CHUMPS!” bOB
Sarah Palin:
Will you join me in supporting a true conservative for governor – Rick Perry? We need Texas’ diverse and strong economy to help pull us out of our economic troubles. That requires a proven CEO as the head of state government. Rick Perry is proven and principled.
Hmm. alsteartfan, or Sarah Palin. Who will I listen to? Sarah Palin, who has proven her credentials, or alstewartfan, who suggests that Sarah Palin was a chump?

I think I'll take Sarah Palin's opinion with more credibility.

1990 was after 1988. At least on my calendar.

I don't know what was in the water in 1988, but my husband liked Algore. Of course he was only 18 and stupid. I didn't meet him until his mid-20’s, but he's always been a conservative guy to me. I'll have to look into that more!

OK, I was a little harsh on you there. It does have a different title, after all.

But try this (and actually, this might explain a little of why there was some cross-arguing last night). Go back to last night's thread Perry: Why I supported Al Gore.

Click on the article we were discussing. Look where you end up: Rick Perry backed an already-crusading Al Gore...

Recognize the article? It's the same article from this thread, just a different link to it.

Now, I don't really know when Ben updated his article and changed the name and republished it. And in retrospect, you might not have noticed this.

I noticed it right away because I went to the article to read it, thinking it had more information that might change my opinion from last night (yes, despite the opinions of some around here, I actually read most of what people link me to, as a speed reader it's not hard).

I immediately recognized the picture, and the first few paragraphs were exactly as I remembered them (I pretty much memorized the article from last night, I read through it so many times trying to see what my opposition was seeing).

So anyway, to answer your questions, it is not a different article, and it does not appear to have different content. It is possible that the content of the article changed during last night's discussion, but it hasn't changed since I joined the conversation, so far as I can tell.

Another reason why Politico isn't the best place to get news, their penchant for changing articles out from under you and changing the titles to deceive their readers that it's different.

There is no doubt FReepers will support Perry or whomever the Republican candidate is in November 2012...it could be Elmer Fudd and I would vote for him.

That’s not the issue...the issue to me is that Perry is not the second coming of Ronald Reagan and appears to me to be Bush III, which does not make me happy at all. Frankly I’m a little tired of Texans for president...in spite of all their conservative bonafides they so far have not lived up to their billing.

BULL CRAP

Anyone who thinks people cannot change their ways of thinking obviously doesn't believe in the powers of persuasion. They may not believe in GOD either.

Look, dammit. I am Recovering_Democrat. I, too, was a DEMOCRAT as recently as 1992. My mind began to change when I saw where the Democrat party was going....Bill Clinton was a scumbag liar,
and I saw that as a DEMOCRAT.

I began to listen to Rush Limbaugh.

I began to gain some personal wealth through investing.

I made friends with older, conservative businessmen who had more experience than me in life.

I fell in love with a conservative.

I got a job...a REAL job.

I began to read the Constitution, Thomas Sowell, George Will.

PEOPLE CAN & DO CHANGE!

God bless, it seems like SOME folks here on FR will REFUSE to allow someone to make a DAMN MISTAKE....or be convinced that ANYONE has turned from being a Democrat to a Republican. They're always looking for some tiny bit of evidence that someone is

Benedict Arnold.

I'm here to tell you: only ONE man walked this planet who could turn water into wine, make the lame to walk and the blind to see, raise the dead, and stroll across Lake Galilee in a storm.

And whatever your equivalent of THAT MAN or WOMAN is in a political sense, well, THERE isn't gonna be a Second Coming.

We should learn our lesson from history: no person will fulfill all our hopes and dreams.

One thing is certain: Hussein is the WORST president of modern times. Perhaps of all time.

He blows. The WORST Republican in the race today is going to be head and shoulders above that socialist.

Should we have vigourous and strong debate? Absolutely. We need to weed out the Charlie Crists and the Arlen Specters and the true RINOs. The primary season is when we SHOULD debate--we should definitely weed out non-conservatives. I also think, though, we should be circumspect in how we define the term. Let's not allow our desire for a purist cause us to define anyone else as a RINO.

Heck, in the past week I heard Michele Bachmann talking about making "incremental" changes if need be...which is realistic. But some might label her a RINO for not wanting to blitzkrieg the political landscape...a scorched earth policy of destroying any good progress because a LITTLE good progress is possible.

God bless, and thanks for allowing me to rant.

RD

To: CodeToad; muleskinner

CodeToad, muleskinner didn’t say the purpose of government is jobs creation; he said it’s the primary issue in this election. Who can deny that?

TX has an environment that is conducive to job creation. Perry may not have created that environment, and may indeed have been late getting on board, but as its governor for ten years, he has taken attracting business to the state and its attendant job creation to new heights. He deserves a good and fair hearing. Not this silly crap about what he did or didn’t do in 1988.

Yes, but the allegation had been made that every single good ol' boy down in Texas was a Democrat, just like Perry. What the timeline proves is that Perry is not a leader of the type we need to save this country. He is a hack career politician who rides a wave that more courageous people set in motion. That's why he is now climbing on the Tea Party bandwagon.

In the cases where Perry actually acted on his own, the results have often been disasters or examples of terrible judgment--like Gardasil, the Trans-Texas Corridor, the endorsement of Al Gore and Giuliani, the pandering to La Raza and CAIR, etc. etc.

You're right, they haven't.

But he's also not the second coming of McCain or Dole.
