In two seemingly offhand remarks Perry has put Obama on the defensive in two policy areas: economics and defense.

The "treason" remark was pretty rough and some candidates who have just entered a national race within 24 hours might have been more timid, one might even say, more circumspect. Perry has eschewed that approach and has laid down a marker. From now on, the Fed and the president will have justify from a defensive posture why they are inflating the economy and depreciating the dollar when nearly 3 years of that practice has manifestly failed the country.

Perry has also implied that Obama does not have the support of the troops and put him on the defensive in this respect. From now on Obama's wars will be seen as wars imposed on our soldiers by a commander-in-chief who is not respected and who probably has little concern for the welfare of the men and women he sends into harm's way.

There will, of course, be blowback which is exactly what Dan Baltz of the Washington Post is trying to gin up with this article. I think Perry has more accurately sensed the mood of the people than has Dan Baltz which mood is a seething anger against the administration and, on balance, the electorate will support Gov. Perry in these remarks.

Indeed, one gets the feeling that Perry might just be poised to blow the doors off the nomination process not by running against Romney or by dissing Bachmann but by bitch slapping Obama black and blue. It might just come to pass that within a 30 to 60 day period the whole process can be decided.

If one accuses me of leaping to conclusions on the flimsiest kind of evidence, I plead guilty. This is only a sense I have of the dynamic we've just witnessed and the way the country will respond to more of the same if we are lucky enough to get it.

Our economic situation is directly tied to our national security.

Our energy “crisis” is directly tied to our national security.

Perry is spot on.

Good post. I expect no less from Nathan Bedford Forrest.

Aside from being quite insightful, let me add that you, sir, are a political poet of the first rank.

Perry has two main concenrs on his path to take on Obama. What is, and what may be. This Is is Romney and Bachmann. The May Be is Palin. They're all factors in the race, in their own ways.

For a number of reasons, and along with your point, I think that Perry has concluded that he holds the key terrain better than any of the three of them. He also realizes that as a three term governor, he has more potential gravity than they do. He's pretty much defused the need for a pro-business governor (Romney), a sharp tongued firebrand (Bachmann) or a popular strategist (Palin). Why fight them, once you've assumed their roles AND begun your siege on the final objective. Rather than maneuver and skirmish against the other nominees, he's simply going to torch a path to the White House and dare anyone to keep pace with him.

It won't be easy for them. These aren't shots across the bow, or playful, optimistic slogans. Perry's openening salvo left actual mushroom clouds. Bachmann can't match that level of firepower and be taken seriously. She's a good conservative, but a fledgling politician isn't a big enough dog to bark displeasure at Ben Bernake with the word treason in it. Romney just doesn't have that kind of fight anywhere in him. He lacks the charm to pull off a blast of that magnitude without looking silly or hysterical. Palin could get huge applause within sectors of the right for doing so, but the center and left would utterly dismiss it and her along with it.

Which will soon beg the question of why the others are needed at all. Why, indeed?

Why do you need Palin to ride to the rescue if Perry's dropping fistfulls of fission like he's a verbal Curtis LeMay? You don't. It saps up the vacuum she was hoping to exploit.

Ditto for Bachmann and Romney. They'll soon wind up in Perry's footsteps trying to keep pace, then they'll fall further and further behind. Perry's heading into rough waters, knowing they just can't swim that well. Just the act of trying to keep up will sink them.

Perry's basically starting off his campaign by taking the converstaion where the others can't follow. Not unless they're right behind him.

Something few noticed but are starting to is Perry has been clashing with Obama since he became President. In public, in media, in the courtroom and he's been doing it as a sitting governor.

In two seemingly offhand remarks Perry...

I wish I had said ALL that! "Circumspect" is highly overrated as a virtue: Ref: John McCain.

Sounds like Perry is taking "Going Rogue" to the next level.

When someone of the stature of Perry says the word treason people as hell better listen. Not just Geithner but also Holder, Bernake and the whole lot of this regime. Perry is taking a bull horn and repeating what millions of Americans are also saying (in privacy). The Rats and the state-controled media are going to be all over this becuase they know what this means. This could be the powder keg that ignites a full blown revolution against the communist democrat party once and for all.

To you sir, I will follow you into battle anytime and anyplace.

“There will, of course, be blowback”

“While Perry focused on Huawei’s ability to create jobs in a sluggish economy, national security experts in both the George W. Bush and Obama administrations had concluded that the global telecom giant poses a potential cyber-security risk to the U.S. military and businesses. Three times since 2008, a U.S. government security panel has blocked Huawei from acquiring or partnering with U.S. companies because of concerns that secrets could be leaked to China’s government or military.”

——If one accuses me of leaping to conclusions——

Rational analysis, succinct and well written is not considered as leaping to a conclusion. The case you make is likely the actual campaign aim.

Bypass the islands and go for the homeland where the enemy can really be killed.

Don’t rile those you want to support you after they have seen the light. The only body count that matters is that of the enemy in the White House.
