The case of the missing news articles.

Scanning the political articles on Google I came across these references to the 2012 GOP Primary in Michigan:

News results:

Ah hah sez I! It's about time the GOP wised up. I proceeded to The Detroit Free Press article on my Blackberry Curve and waited for the download. As sometimes happens with the BB in column mode headers appeared but no text body.

No problem, just switched to page mode and there it was...for a brief moment. And then the page refreshed it self and posted "this article is no longer available"

What?

Never mind. Went to the next search article. Same thing. Same thing with the third article.

WTH?

Now this has my attention. I google Michigan GOP, go to their site and find...nothing relating to GOP primary chnanges.

Can any Michganders enlighten me in regards to the vanishing news articles posted by three distinct MI newspapers?

Is this an elaborate hoax?

Kind of closed.

You have to declare yourself to being a republican but beyond that it doesn’t mean much. You can’t split a primary ballot in Michigan anyway.

Kinda’ sorta the same in NC.

Come Primary time an independent can ask for a Republican or Democrat ballot. But if they pick Republican and then there is a run off for the Democrats they can’t go back and vote in the Democrat run off.

Thanks guys.

Still have the same problem with The Free Press site on the Blackberry, the kick to their mobi page. Even the google cached page did the same.

BTW those clowns url reads www.freep.com - the nerve of dose guys!

Finally found AP sources regarding the move.

Closed primary good. Would Dems change declared party affiliation as they did elsewhere in 2008?

What’s with the insane me first desire to kick the GOP primary to Feb 28, given they can lose half of their votes at the RN Convention?

Was this an action by the state GOP, or just a request/recommendation? I thought only the state legislature had the power to set the rules about who can vote in each primary.

AP excerpt says Michigan GOP

_____________________________________
Michigan Republicans have voted to hold a closed primary election to choose 2012 presidential convention delegates.

The Republican State Committee on Saturday approved the recommendation of the party’s Policy Committee by a vote of 92-17.

Supporters say it’s a more inclusive way of choosing delegates than a convention or caucus.

Under Michigan law a closed GOP primary would mean that people going to the polls would have to declare themselves Republicans before casting ballots.

Some who opposed the measure say it’s closed in name only, since voters can say they are Republican

It’s an open primary. Closed in name only. Anyone can choose a republican ballot on election day.
