Rick Perry enters presidential race with Obama broadside

CHARLESTON, S.C. and AMES, Iowa -- Texas Governor Rick Perry announced his bid for the 2012 Republican nomination here Saturday with a speech grounded in attacks on President Obama for "downgrading" America.

"I declare to you today as a candidate for President of the United States," Perry told a friendly crowd in South Carolina, host to the nation's third presidential primary.

... As Perry pointed out in his speech, 40 percent of the nation's new jobs since June 2009 have been created in Texas.

"It's time to get America working again," Perry said, arguing that "Recovery is a meaningless word if the bank has foreclosed on your home."

While Perry spent some of his speech discussing his own record, he spent most of his time attacking the current occupant of the White House. He criticized Mr. Obama's "unbridled fixation" on spending and suggested the president's economic policies have "prolonged our national misery, not alleviated it."

"You cannot win the future by selling America off to foreign creditors," he said. "We cannot afford four more years of this rudderless leadership." The time had come, he added, to "stop the generational theft."

Change in America, Perry said, begins not with Washington but with the American people, "patriots who will not be consigned to a fate of less freedom in exchange for more government."

"We are indignant about leaders that do not listen and spend money faster than they can print it," Perry said, complaining of "central planners" who "downgrade our future and micromanage our lives."

"I'll work every day to try to make Washington, D.C., as inconsequential in your life as I can," he added.

.....“I full well believe I’m going to win,” Perry told South Carolina voters on a conference call about an hour before he planned to kick off the campaign with a speech in Charleston.

In a posting on his new campaign website explaining why he wanted to take on President Barack Obama, Perry contended that “America’s place in the world is in peril, not only because of disastrous economic policies, but from the incoherent muddle known as our foreign policy.”

Americans, he said, “will not sit back and accept our current misery.” He said “a great country requires a better direction” and “a renewed nation requires a new president.”

He said people object to an administration “that sees its role as spending our children’s inheritance on failed economic theories that have given us record debt and left far too many unemployed, threatening not only our economy, but our security. Our reliance on foreign creditors and sources of energy not only compromises our national sovereignty, but jeopardizes our national future.”

His campaign intends to take back the country “from the grips of central planners who would control our health care, spend our treasure and micromanage our businesses.”.... Source

It’s a “broadside” when a Republican demonstrates the truth.

“I’ll work every day to try to make Washington, D.C., as inconsequential in your life as I can,”

That works for me.

I’ve got a feeling that America is going to come apart at the seams during the 2012 election. There are “two Americas”. Anyone who doesn’t believe that really needs to try to focus. It’s going to get very, very ugly. The freeloaders are going to want all the freebies that they’ve been told they “deserve”. The producers don’t want to be forced into paying for them. Civil War II is beginning right before out eyes. Barry getting elected wasn’t “history”. Causing another civil war in America is going to be his claim to fame.

Excellent observation.

As if everyone in the world doesn’t view this administration as dead in the water - a sitting duck for a broadside (not to mention our country).

Already is and the Democratic Party is going to stoke that for all it's worth. We must stay focused.

"I'll work every day to try to make Washington, D.C., as inconsequential in your life as I can," he added.

Get back to me when he spells out the multitude of federal agencies and programs that are outside the Enumerated Powers and that he will therefore cut, and when he shows a willingness to protect the life of every innocent person in this country, including the unborn child.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that if Obama senses he is losing, he will call out his urban storm troopers and wreak havoc nationwide. And if that doesn’t quell the popular uprising, he will simply declare martial law. He will sew the wind, and we will reap the whirlwind.

I read with interest the transcript of Governor Perry's announcement. It contained nothing that I haven't heard from Bachmann, Cain, et al.

Governor Palin, regardless of the time allotted in interviews, never fails to point out that a sound domestic energy policy is the engine that will make all those good results the other politicians talk about possible. Additionally she never fails to talk about realigning the Federal government with its Constitutionally mandated responsibilities.

Perry missed the boat on both those issues today. That plus what I read about his campaign contributors getting millions of company start up dollars while putting up very little of their own money, makes him no more acceptable than Romney.
