Dem. Hill staffers head to Maui on taxpayers’ dime for Senate Indian Affairs Comm. field hearing

Senate Democrats are charging taxpayers for a trip to Hawaii, The Daily Caller has learned. The entire press staff of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee is in Maui, even though a field hearing there won’t happen until next Wednesday.

The committee’s oversight field hearing, scheduled for August 17 at 9:00 a.m. at the Maui Beach Hotel, will focus on “Strengthening Self-Sufficiency: Overcoming Barriers to Economic Development in Native Communities.”

Rick Manning from Americans for Limited Government, which first discovered the hearing, told TheDC it’s unbelievable that Hill staffers talking about fiscal responsibility would waste money on a trip to Maui.

“It’s outrageous that Senate Democrats have so little respect for the American taxpayer that in the same month they buried our credit rating, they’re heading to Hawaii to celebrate,” Manning said.

A committee staffer told TheDC that the reason the hearing will be in Maui is “mostly because it’s his [committee chairman Sen. Daniel Akaka’s] home state.” It’s unclear if the field hearing will focus on any issues relating at all to Hawaii, or if the reasoning for scheduling the trip there is only because Akaka will already be in Hawaii during the congressional recess.

The staffer said Akaka is the only senator who will attend.

The Democratic committee staffers used taxpayer funding to travel to Hawaii a full week before their committee’s hearing date. When TheDC called the committee’s Washington, D.C., office Thursday afternoon, a different staffer who answered the phone said all the committee’s communications staffers are already in Maui.

Just more of the same ole. Good thing everyone voted to raise the debt ceiling I would have not been able to sleep knowing they wouldn’t have been able to make this trip. Oh wait they would have made it any way after all the money saved by not making SS payments or paying the military would have compensated for this and also the all important gay penis size study would have continued as well. And after all that must be continued at all costs. Prison is too good for these political animals.

Obviously, this is a convergence. The staffers get a tropical vacation. And His Majesty Senator Akaka doesn’t have to bestir himself out among the peasantry to catch a flight to the mainland. He can simply use the treasury to summon his committee’s lackies to him. He wins, the lackies win...the taxpayers lose.

“”Lots of Indians in Hawaii?””

There will be when this GOVT boondoggle begins!!!

This gathering in Hawaii is a prize for the Indians who have never left the Democrat Reservation.

It is not only the Democrat Committee Staffers who will be getting a free trip to Maui. The Indian Chiefs will be charging their trip to the BIA.

Everything a Democrat does is for the purpose of paying off voters.

Matter of fact there are. The Hawaiian natives want Federal recognition as a tribe so they can get casinos. They consider themselves natives same as Indian tribes here do. I believe Senator Akaka is helping them in their push for Federal Tribal recognition. It's a bunch of bs as far as I'm concerned. Those Hawaiian "natives" are really watered down as far as how much native blood they have.

I just shelled out close to $7,000 of my own money to fly and spend a week there for my honeymoon, while these clowns and their horde of teet-sucking lackeys can show up, pretend to work for a few hours, and then spend the rest of the time living it up on my dime.

I’d love to see this get more attention, especially after Obama bashed trips to Las Vegas early in his term.
