Absent other evidence, can a conviction be obtained simply due to surveilance video? How could they say it was you rather than someone who looked like you... a body double?
There’s a certain irony in reading the weepy depictions of all these “good kid gone bad stories” and looking at the links on the right hand side of the page to story after story of celebrity dysfunction. The Mail epitomizes what is wrong with contemporary British popular culture.
Remember when the Iranians decided to grab a launch with 14 British sailors. They had made a run at a U.S Navy launch and the Americans assumed threatening defensive positions, shouldering weapons and taking cover. When they made a run at the Brits, they rolled over and let themselves be taken.

Many businesses, destroyed by rioters, do not return; their business is gone forever. What plan do the rioters have for an encore once they have taken what they want from the rich?

With all due respect to “Roger Whittaker” , I don’t think many Australians would like to have thugs imported. Despite the socalled ‘convict’ history of Australia over 200 yrs ago. We tend to call many of them ‘whinging poms’, anyway. As it seems Australia is now much more of a civilised country than Britain & many other places around the world. It would appear that the rioters in England would even give the IRA a run for its money!

This is something that needs restricted gun rights to be on the table.

Sorry, that was the Australian Navy (not American). Unless you are referring to another incident.

This article is a smoke screen intended to distract attention from the ethnicity and social class of the vast bulk of the rioters. From the cctv footage I saw the majority were black, but mustn't say that lest one give the (correct) impression that blacks have a far higher proportion of violent criminals than can be accounted for by random selection. Inner city thug culture, coddling of lazy welfare parasites to buy their votes, etc.

Don't know about the U.K., but here I would say that without an alibi or identical twin, the body double claim wouldn't rise to the level of reasonable doubt. Of course, it would depend on the quality of the video, but if it's pretty darn obvious, I would say the video would be sufficient.
