Unless I'm missing something here, I can't think of any state less relevant to the subject of Indian Affairs than Hawaii. What exactly is the American Indian population of Hawaii?

Native Hawaiians are not considered to be American Indians. Offhand, I don't know how they would be classified for US Census data.

Native Hawaiians aren’t Indians but the committee deals with them too.

The only apparent reason the hearing is being held there is that’s where his majesty chairman Akaka will be holding court.

Article says he’ll be the only Senator there. I never heard of a hearing with just one Senator. What Akaka will be talking to himself about is unknown.

All sounds really ridiculous.
