Christine O'Donnell writes in her new book TROUBLEMAKER that establishment Republican TV guru Fred Davis pushed Christine O'Donnell into filming the infamous "I'm not a witch" ad - by saying "Let's just see how it looks" after Christine's repeated objection and rejection of the script. Then Fred Davis posted the ad on the internet, sent it to the New York Times, and placed it with TV stations -- WITHOUT FINAL AUTHORIZATION from Christine O'Donnell.

Other witnesses who were present at the filming of Fred Davis' "witch" ad confirm Christine O'Donnell's account -- that Christine O'Donnell rejected the "witch" script the night before, sat down and got wired in with ear piece and microphone, and then was confronted with the script she had rejected the night before. Fred Davis badgered O'Donnell to just "TRY OUT" the script, and if she didn't like the result they wouldn't use it.

Fred Davis, as confirmed by other witnesses, then used the unapproved version on the internet and in TV ad buys and sent the ad to the New York Times.

So.... Did the RINO insider establishment intentionally sabotage Christine O'Donnell's campaign?

Christine O'Donnell admits in her book that it was her moment of weakness that she acquiesced to Fred Davis' badgering. She admits she should not have allowed herself to be pushed into it -- even on the promise that it was only a test to see what it would look like, not a "real" version of the final ad.

Christine O'Donnell told me personally that if she could have 20 seconds of her life back it would be NOT her now-famous moment of honesty about her teenage years on "Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher," but the moment she agreed to hire Fred Davis after having her arm twisted by XYZ at great length.

XYZ is very close and buddy-buddy with Republican insiders at the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

O'Donnell was encouraged to hire Fred Davis by XYZ with the idea that hiring one of the Republican insider's consultants could give them confidence in her campaign and bring the Republican establishment on board in a unity drive for the Delaware U.S. Senate seat. O'Donnell spent a lot of effort trying to bring the GOP together for the November 2 election.

But... Was this all a set up from the start?

Did a GOP insider pressure O'Donnell to hire Fred Davis, so that Fred Davis could intentionally make an ad damaging to O'Donnell -- and then run it without approval?

Never EVER underestimate the slime that can ooze from the beltway insiders.

RINOs are lying, manipulative, bottom feeding, scum who will happily hand a race to the democrats so they can say “told you so”.

Conservatism and the liberal establishment portion of the GOP have been at war since August 29, 2008.

Karl Rove continued to sabotage her constantly, AFTER she was nominated. Not much doubt that the establishment was out to get her.

And the same thing happened with Sarah Palin. Read “Going Rogue.” McCain’s operators deliberately sabotaged her, again and again, even though it cost McCain the election.

Frankly, I was disappointed in some of the folks here on FR as well, since they didn’t seem to understand what was going on, and accepted with the Left Wing Press had to say about O’Donnell.

Lesson learned. If you’re a conservative Tea Party type, NEVER accept help from RNSC/RNC insiders. Demand money from them, but hire your own people.

The ads run by Castle against Christine O’Donnell in the primary were as viscious as any ads I have ever heard. When she won the primary, rather than do the honorable thing, Castle and the GOP establishment chose not to support her.

A LOT of us figured it was a setup. That’s why we have such CONTEMPT for the Republican leadership.

O’Donnell said no but she didn’t mean it apparently. If she was in charge all she had to do was get up and walk. To me this says a lot about her capibilities, all talk but no walk.

In the end she is responsible for her own judgement. Had I been her campaign manager, right after that whole ‘witch’ thing happened I would have played with it instead of against it...and made a TV commercial recreating a scene from the Wizard of Oz with Pelosi as the Wicked Witch of the West, and then cut in O’Donnell and Glenda, with some easily interjected dialogue. It would have been a classic immediately, and would have won her the election. Too many people overplay how to influence popular media. The lowest denominator, passion, and humor will always win.

No doubt in my mind that the NRSC and the NRP sabotaged Christine’s run for the Senate. I will not give the back stabbers any of my money.

The O’Donnell campaign never ever runs out of excuses, “enemies”, and scapegoats. Does it. She had zero appeal outside her base. And that base in such a liberal state was just broad enough to allow her to lose humiliatingly.

Voter registration for Delaware’s 2010 election totaled Democrats: 47 %. Republicans: 29.4%. “Other” & Independents: 23.5%

http://elections.delaware.gov

Rove and the NRSC could have adopted her into their own homes and those numbers would have been the same.

I also recall the “I’m just like you” (I didn’t go to Yale) ad. She was quite proud of it at the time.

I’ve spent the last 20 minutes or so browsing old FR O’Donnell threads from before the election. The disconnect from reality seen in them is just as bad as I remembered.

O'Donnell was never a shoo-in to win in heavily Dem Delaware, but did have a good chance to win against the slimeball the Dems had.

From the very moment she won her primary, Tokyo Rove and the establishment RINOs shot her chances down, it took McConnell and the boys two or three days to even start giving her any assistance, and it was obvious that was very grudging. Her individual contributions in the first couple days was greater than most other Senate candidates; the enthusiasm she brought with her was very high, and guess what? The NRSC and the crony GOP did everything in their power to shoot that down....and succeeded.

When the general election rolled around shortly after her nomination, she was far behind because of the nonsupport and awful campaign advice from her establishment handlers.

This didn't just effect a single senate seat, it set the tone for the entire voting in the entire country! Delaware's polls closed a 6PM, at least two hours before any other in the country, and the result of her loss was chortled loudly by every MSM outlet, which set the tone for the rest of the country. Although the races for the house were strongly in our favor, at least four closely contested Senate (WV,CO, WA and AK, and perhaps NV and CA) seats went to the Dems by very close margins, and I believe were influenced by this early loss. IF, and this is a big IF, Christine had pulled off a narrow victory, the GOP could well be holding the Senate Majority today... Or, if there had been a "too close to call" in this race for a couple more hours, Rease in WV would have likely won, setting the tone for the races in the west, and the GOP would likely have between 49-51 seats there. Big difference.

Yep, the senate GOP establishment types managed to weasel out of having to take responsibility for doing the right things in the 113th congress, all right. Thank God the TEA parties were strong enough to, with Sarah's valuable help, take over the house and give our country a chance to survive until the 2013 change of power!

I entirely agree with her quote: "It was a wrong-headed move, made for all the wrong reasons, but it was mine,"

She made it where she was with her own team, she should never have allowed a different team to come in. And she never should have made that commercial.

I remember when that ad came out, and how hard it was for some supporters here to defend the ad, although try they did.

I felt the same way about George Allen in 2006, that he was betrayed by his campaign staff, but in the end, we hold candidates responsible for the people they hire.
