We’re probably lucky that security caught it. I went through the airport about a month ago, and had to go through the new scanners and all that for the first time. On my return trip, I completely forgot about the “3 oz” rule for liquids, and had a 20 oz bottle of soda in my carry-on when I went through security. After getting cleared I realized I had left it in there, and figured they just took it, but I checked and it was still there.
I’m not sure if they missed it, or if the TSA folks in Phoenix just couldn’t be bothered to confiscate an unopened soda from a 30-something white guy on vacation.
"Go right ahead, Sir. Oh, by the way, you are welcome to use the Mini-Mosque down on Concourse B, just past the Starbucks, on the left. Have a safe flight, Sir."
