PRELIMINARY REPORT
It is public knowledge that the final move of our Wounded Warriors from Walter Reed to Bethesda Naval Hospital and Ft. Belvour will be Sunday, August 28,2011.
THE DC CHAPTER OF FREEREPUBLIC WILL BE THERE and all patriots are invited to help show our Wounded Warriors and their families that they are loved and that we support them where ever the are.
Not knowing specific details at this time we have permitted all four corners of all 4 gates from 6AM till 10PM. Once we know which gate(s) they will be leaving from, we will start setting up at 6AM. Rumor has it that the ambulances will start transporting our Wounded Warriors at 7AM. We do not know the expected end time. From some deduction of rumors, it is expected to be around 6-7PM
With this scant info, please put August 28 on your calendars. As details are forth coming, we will be asking patriots to help out in 2 hour shifts so there are sufficient numbers showing our support through out the move.
Being the last official Walter Reed event, we expect some media coverage.
Feel free to post this notice on blogs and inform other patriotic groups to join us.
DC Chapter Master Ping List
We finally have enough info to put out a Heads Up notice. We will post more info as it becomes available. Please plan for a 2 hour shift. We already have a few Friday night stalwarts that are planning to spend most of the day there. We need others, especially in the early AM hours, to help cover all four corners.
The DC Chapter will be providing drinks, but ask that you bring your own munchies. We plan on having patriotic music.
[Mr] T
Wish I could be there.
Looking forward to your report.
So what is the future of Walter Reed, anyway?
The State Department and the District of Columbia will take over the Washington campus Sept. 15.
Looking at our plans to see if the wheels on our Florida truck can bring us up to be there with you again. Also checking with Beverly to see what might be planned for her and Vickie that week and if we might be able to stand with them too. :)
I also heard that the Molonge House will be renovated into a VIP hotel for dignitaries that are in town doing business with the State Department. The Molonge House was originally built for visiting high ranking military types so the renovation will not be hard. It is already a magnificent building.
Smokingfrog - Appreciate your past support. You made it when you could, that is all we can ask.
[Mr] T
Thanks for pinging the VA and MD lists. Sounds like a plan if you can make it. You all have been such a big supporter of our Walter Reed Rallies that if you cannot not make it, don’t fret. Our thanks to you cannot be adequately expressed.
[Mr] T
Maryland PING!
Having made a couple of the Friday night vigils, I feel you all are certainly owed a debt of gratitude from the many of us who watch from afar.
Knowing how connected you are to the whole effort there at WR, I wonder if you know anything about the ongoing process to get gifts to the wounded troops. We had a group of Korean War vets from Delaware who went down recently and were told there was no longer any provision for leaving treats, etc. I recall going on the base and taking some goodies to a drop off point. Any idea if that has been shut down and if a similar arrangement will be available at Bethesda? The vets want to show their support but are a tad frustrated now about how to do that.
Found this link the other night looking for similar information.

Donations and Giving
“The Walter Reed Chaplain’s Office is not currently accepting donations due to Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Operations.”
The consensus is that it may take Bethesda several months before Bethesda and WR personal assimilate together. We heard that some one went to Bethesda and wanted to have a BBQ for them. The question back was: For the Navy, Marines or Army. Duh, it would be for all of our wounded warriors and military.
Get back to us in a few months and we hopefully can give you better info.
[Mr] T
If another use for donations would be better, could that be done?
While we will not be out at Walter Reed after August 28th there is something always going on in DC that needs funds. We still have two more Fridays and then for the 29th move we will be out most of the day.
Thank you for any help to FR or the DC Chapter you can provide.
You have FRmail.
[Mr] T
I’m sure the DC chapter would deeply appreciate anything you can help them with, hummingbird.
There are many fine, dedicated groups that provide support to the wounded, injured and ill combat troops and their families at the hospitals, easily found if you do a google search.
