McCain hosts town hall to talk economy, hobbits (McCain: "I am not sorry for" attacking Tea Party)

GILBERT - Arizona Sen. John McCain held a town hall in Gilbert this morning and the economy took center stage.

The town hall was focused on the nations' economic troubles and McCain said the on-going financial problems would be much greater had Congress not passed a bill to keep the country from defaulting on its debt.

McCain said he is very concerned with the recent S&P downgrade of the United States' credit rating and views it as a wake-up call to the nation.

"It will cost more to borrow money and it is a very serious situation," McCain said.

McCain also expressed his disapproval of certain Tea Party members who demanded that Congress pass a balanced budget amendment before they would act on the debt ceiling before the deadline.

"It's unrealistic and unfair to the American people to tell them that we have to pass a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution before we would act," McCain said.

The Tea Party has taken offense with McCain, who recently was quoted in a Wall Street Journal editorial calling Tea Party members hobbits. Many people in the audience came to the town hall to express their anger at McCain's comments and ask for an apology.

McCain refused to apologize to Tea Party members.

"I am sorry if it was misunderstood. I am not sorry for what I said," McCain said. "I mean, why should I when it's a fact? But if it was misunderstood, I'm sorry."

mccain gave it to himself, the media reporting him as maverick, and then mccain said “they” call me a maverick.

remember the absurd video at the GOP convention? two mavericky mavericks leading a maverick path. it was as pathetic as mccain himself.

Typical RINO scumbag. Sucked up to The Tea Party to get re-elected in 2010 and then he turns right around and stabs them in the back.

I'd rather be a Hobbit than a Smurf like McCain.

Hey McAinal, get over it. If the tea party hadn’t been here our worthless bonds would be in worse shape:

Rick Santelli Goes Off: “We’d Be BBB Without Tea Party!” (Video)
Gateway Pundit ^ | August 8,2011 | Jim Hoft

From the Video: Rick Santelli reacts to President Obama’s blame game when it comes to the downgrade of the United States of America’s credit rating. Santelli says that if it wasn’t for the tea party movement, America’s credit would have been downgraded to BBB.

He also responds to the argument that we have a revenue problem by comparing it to if his wife spending 30% more money then telling him to get 2 more jobs. Hat Tip Ed

“My wife has enough money to keep buying me a senate seat until they have to scrape my decomposing remains out of it. That last guy to challenge me, I bought enough attack ads against him so that his own mother wouldn’t vote for him! Bwahahahaha! Money talks, you peasants! I do what I want, and nobody can stop me! I don’t give a flying fig what any of the hoi polloi think!”

Somewhere J.D. Hayworth is quietly thinking, “I told you so”. The Arizona voters were stupid to believe anything McCain had to say.

Did anyone show up? What would anyone attend such an event. Whata waste of time!

Nobody could hear anything J.D. said underneath the din of McCain’s multi-million dollar professional grade libel campaign. He was buying up maybe one in four ads on TV and radio, all to tear down Hayworth. No effort at all to tout whatever it was McCain stood for, other than in the most general of terms.

I like to remind people that McCain isn’t even an Arizonan. His beer heiress wife is, and she buys him the seat, though neither of them spend any appreciable time at all in Arizona, when they don’t have to.

McCain is closest to being a Virginian, but they certainly don’t want him back. And his temper is such that he is probably still trying to destroy Hayworth from afar, in any way he can.

In many ways, he is the Republican version of John Kerry, but less squishy liberal, more mean and angry.

The S&P crew want a balanced budget amendment too. Time for McCain to retire.... He is just too tired for this kind of work, he is always caving to the opposition...
