My wife was a Psych nurse and she said “everyone in that field has psychological issues themselves”.

I psychologist I know once explained to me that the problem is twofold:

1. People who are drawn to the field are almost all screwed-up themselves and see working in the field as a way to cure themselves.

2. No psychologist or psychiatrist has EVER treated an emotionally/psychologically/spiritually healthy person (such people have no reason to ever make an appointment). Because of this, they have no "benchmark" for what healthy should look like. A normal doctor can compare, for instance, a sick and healthy heart and knows what's healthy, psychologists never get this opportunity and as a result they assume, incorrectly, that everyone has "issues."

Many of these posts are riddled with bigotry and inaccuracy, and your is no exception.
