It wasn’t a dumb statement at all. We don’t know all the facts, for sure, but at face value, SEALS are not an appropriate unit to do a QRF. They don’t have enough hardware and options that a standard QRF package brings.
Read paratrooper’s post, and mine. A standard Marine package comes with 2 snakes looking for the ambush with infrared; Rangers and Airborne troops bring their longbows to the party.

I would say they went because it was some of their own they were going to rescue. But none of those men would have said I am better than he is so let someone else go.
