MoveOn.org email: Looking for $$$ to defeat WI Republicans

Posted on 08/05/2011 6:47:25 PM PDT by FrdmLvr

Dear MoveOn member,

How good would it feel to see a big win for progressives right now—and a devastating defeat for the tea party?

Democrats in Wisconsin are on the verge of just that. And with just six days left in their campaign to recall the Republican state senators who aided and abetted Gov. Walker's vicious attacks on working families, they need our help.

Polling released yesterday shows that it's going to come down to the wire. Democrats are tied or slightly ahead in all six of the races1, but conservative groups like Citizens United and Club for Growth are targeting them with last-minute ads.2

We've got one last ad campaign ready to go, but we need $150,000 to launch it. Can you chip in so we can win these races, show Republicans nationwide that attacking working folks has consequences, and show Democrats that fighting for working families is a winning strategy?

Click here to chip in $5 on ActBlue.

Too many Democrats in Washington are refusing to stand up and fight for working families. But when the radical Republican attacks started in Wisconsin this winter, progressives fought back, and Democrats had their backs.

Thousands took over the state capitol, and hundreds of thousands marched on the streets of Madison. And rather than dismissing that energy, or ignoring it, the Wisconsin 14 left the state for weeks, at great personal cost, to stop Gov. Walker's radical policies.

So with just six days left in this battle, we need to show that progressives can win—not just to stop Gov. Walker, but also to send a message across America that if you fight for us, we'll fight for you. We're partnering with the Progressive Change Campaign Committee and Democracy for America to run one last round of ads, but we need $150,000 to launch the campaign.

You might want to consider throwing a few bucks to Citizens United and Club for Growth to help with their last minute ads.

Sorry wish I could, but I don’t donate to anyone that doesn’t have a mailing address to send money by mail, like FR.

...devastating defeat for the tea party?

Lacking essential details in the article, they don't say what it is about the Tea Party that gives them the heebie jeebies.

Maybe it's because we're "terrorists" or as Nancy alluded, 'Nihilists?'

The only way America will survive is to destroy the Unions.

I have , and I am encouraging all who will participate in the day of fasting and prayer tomorrow (8/06/11) to pray that the Republicans hold every seat and the dems lose theirs, instead!

If Democrats pull off a recall of the WI senators, it will send a shockwave around the country against pension reform for public employee unions even as the programs are underfunded, unfair, unreasonable and unsustainable.

They need three to retake the majority in the WI Senate.

When this first came up I checked past elections and here's what I saw based only on the history. Motivation is on the side of the union thugs and Dems:

High risk:

Randy Hopper (Fond du Lac) won by only 163 votes in 2008. I'd call that one at very serious risk.

Alberta Darling (River Hills) won by 1% in 2008, just over 1,000 votes. I'd call that one at serious risk.

Some risk:

Dan Kapake (La Crosse) won reelection by less than 3% in 2008, about 2500 votes, slightly smaller margin than when he took the seat. He ran for congress in 2010 and lost by almost 4%. I'd say there's some risk to this seat.

Little risk:

Sheila Harsdorf (River Falls) won by 12% in 2008, over 11,000 votes. Probably safe.

No risk:

Rob Cowles (Allouez) won with 99.35% of the vote. I think he's safe.

Luther Olseon (Ripon) won with 99.35% of the vote. I think he's safe too.

There's a Tea Party candidate running against the Democrat under recall: Kim Simac

Interestingly Googling "Kim Simac wisconsin" didn't show her campaign site in the first pages of results, it shows attack pieces from TPM and others. Coincidence I'm sure. /s

How can someone get 99.35% of the vote? Those numbers almost sound like one of those Saddam Hussein elections.
