C. Boyden Gray, former White House counsel to President George W. Bush, filed a civilian complaint with the IRS against the nonprofit Media Matters on July 27, demanding the agency yank its “tax-exempt status.”
Citing a pattern of “unlawful conduct,” Gray writes in his petition, which FOX Business has obtained, that the nonprofit has “executed a partisan strategy” in violation of U.S. tax law as it exists “no longer to educate the public but, rather, to declare ‘war on FOX,’” Gray says, quoting from an interview its founder, David Brock, gave to the website Politico.
Also unlawful, Gray says, is the nonprofit's reported goal to “disrupt” the commercial interests of News Corp.

None of these activities are sanctioned, or even found, in nonprofit tax law, Gray says, adding in an interview with FOX Business: “I filed the complaint pro bono. I have no official ties with FOX News or News Corp., the company doesn’t pay me a dime, I’m not on its payroll, and no one there asked me to do this. I filed it on my own.”
Media Matters did not return calls or emails for comment over a month-long period.
Gray, who now runs his own law firm in Washington, D.C., says: “I have never seen any tax-exempt organization getting into the kind of partisan activity Media Matters is now engaging in.”
Gray says he has “known” the nonprofit’s founder, Brock, “favorably,” but filed the IRS complaint “because of the potential abuse of tax-exempt funds.”
He adds: “No one would begrudge what they’re [Media Matters] doing with non-exempt funds, but it’s different when they have tax-exempt status -- it’s like a government stamp of approval because of this government subsidy.”

Take the Anti-Defamation League. They pay their handler, Abe Foxman over $500K a year. Ever read Consumer Reports? Did you know that Consumers Union who owns it is tax exempt? They have about $100 milllion in the bank. How about Judicial Watch? Yep, Judicial Watch. Why should they be tax exempt? FYI, since their inception Judicial Watch has taken in over $100 million dollars. I've watched them for years and they really have had little real impact on anything. Except keeping a few lawyers living well.
Years back when I first started ranting about nonprofits there were about 550,000 of them. Today they is about three times that. Many of them are in business to enrich their handlers or push a political position. Or just put regular corporations out of business or compete heads up with them. The Federal government should be banned from giving a penny to any nonprofit!
We have lost billions by allowing these bogus outfits to suck on the taxpayers tit. Hardly any nonprofits do anything to directly help people. Why we here in America allow such outfits makes no sense. For example, in Mexico and most other countries nonprofits do not exist.
I've been calling for nonprofit corporation reform here for years. It is good to see this. I hope it begins to be a trend.
They can’t do that because they would have to extablish a “Committee” to study it first.

I agree 100% There’s no reason why one person should pay more taxes so people who contribute to an organization with which they may or may not agree can pay less.
Agree. Seems that most TE outfits are created by lawyers for lawyers and their supporters to fleece the rest of the working classes across the land.
