In what amounted to a pep talk aimed at disenchanted Hispanic voters, President Obama on Monday blamed Republicans for his unsuccessful efforts to overhaul the nations immigration system, telling Hispanic activists that the Democrats and your president are with you.
Feel free to keep the heat on me and the heat on Democrats, Mr. Obama said in an address to the National Council of La Razas annual conference in Washington. But the Democrats and your president are with you. Dont get confused about that. Remember who it is that we need to move in order to actually change the laws.
The speech was Mr. Obamas latest effort to court the crucial voting bloc ahead of next years election. Last month he paid a brief visit to Puerto Rico the first trip to the country by a sitting president in decades and hosted the first-ever White House Hispanic Policy Conference.
